I purchased a Toyota Prius from Motorvation, which has two lots one off Broad St and this one, under the emphasis of it being a reliable car for me. I personally contacted the dealer, Jamie, and told him my situation. I have been serving as a missionary for the past 3 years in South Africa and have recently returned back to the States and needed a reliable car with good gas mileage. I told him how much I was willing to spend and asked if he would work with me. He brought the car down to my price and explained that it had some superficial damages paint missing and a small crack but that it was a reliable car and would be a great fit for me. I was concerned about a few things. The first was that the car had a distinct smoke smell which he promised to alleviate before I picked it up. The second was that the front tires were in bad shape. He got me set up with good used tires for a cheap price to fix this. When I signed the contract and got into my new car, the smell lingered but was much better. However, it must have been merely sprayed and air fresheners used as it came back quickly and strong. I have since had to pay to have it detailed on the inside to get rid of the smell, as well as replace the cabin air filter and purchase numerous air fresheners. However, all of these things are minor and come with buying a used car from a small dealer and I understood that. What I can not agree with is the fact that he blatantly ignored my calls and would not return them even after leaving multiple messages. He knew that he had sold me a car with problems, otherwise he would have return my calls as he did when we were negotiating the purchase. I continued to call for three weeks before getting any call back and the only reason he returned a call then was because I threatened to get the news involved. We then had one conversation where I told him of the major issues, the one being that I need a new catalytic converter which is over $2000 to fix. He promised that he wasn't going to leave me hanging dry and would work with me because he knew my situation. He then again stopped answering my calls. I finally received a call 6 days later after I first spoke to his boss and the owner of the dealership and explained my frustration. He has now told me that he thinks I should take an alternate route to fixing the catalytic converter which would save me hundreds of dollars but is very rarely done and was highly discouraged by two other mechanics. Either way, he has told me that I'm on my own in getting it fixed. So much for not leaving me hanging dry. I just spent $9000 on a car that needs $2000 of work and have been offered no help or sincere concern. I told the dealer who sold me the car and the owner, that I was highly disappointed in their service and lack of concern for the situation. Neither seemed hurt by the fact that they had lost respect and trust and that I would be letting others know about my service with them. It just baffles me that people can be so dishonest and have such a lack of concern or respect for others that they can't be honest in their business. Please save yourself weeks of hassles and hundreds or in my case, thousands of dollars and buy elsewhere. DO NOT BUY CARS FROM THEM! You will regret it!!!!
