The MSU School Psychology program offers a APA accredited and NASP approved doctoral program, as well as a NASP approved Educational Specialist program.
The Mississippi State School Psychology Program offers an APA accredited and NASP approved doctoral program, as well as a NASP approved Educationalist Specialist program. Along the way to degree completion in either program, students obtain a Master's of Science in School Psychometry. The program is behaviorally oriented and follows the scientist-practitioner model. Students in the program are afforded opportunities to apply their skills in assessment, behavior analysis, intervention, research, and consultation across a variety of academic, research, clinic, and practicum settings.
The School Psychology faculty work to ensure that students will have curricular experiences, which will enable students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills across four training domains: I) Professional School Psychology including Professional Orientation, Assessment, and Consultation/Interventions, II) Research and Statistics, III) Psychological Foundations, and at the doctoral level, IV) Focus Area. Each of these domains contains specific objectives of the faculty in the School Psychology Programs. Please note that these domains and objectives are closely aligned with the MSU College of Education’s Conceptual Framework Program Outcomes (CFPOs), with the National Association of School Psychologists’ (NASP) Standards for Graduate Preparation of School Psychologist, and the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation requirements. Students are evaluated on the knowledge, skills, and their application by university faculty, and practica and internship supervisors through course examinations, comprehensive examinations, practica and internship evaluations, and annual evaluations completed by faculty with the input of other university faculty.
