Why is community support essential for your dept ? Community support has always been paramount for our department in the areas of support and finances. Our department has always enjoyed the somewhat large volunteer base that our community interest always provides, from older to younger volunteer firefighters. This coupled with financial support (to equip firefighters has always been somewhat of a deigning task. With a very small operational budget this is a great assets to our small department. How does your dept. help make the community a safer place ? Our department currently provides Fire Safety to our area schools (Mt. Olive Elementary). This entails teaching Exit Drills in the Home "EDITH", Fire Safety, and Fire Prevention. Mt. Olive Sunderland Volunteer Fire Department. Along with Russell County Emergency Management provides Weather radios for early alert weather situations. How does your dept. educate the community about fire safety ? **See prior comments on Making our community a safer place. How does your community thank your department for its memorable experience on the job’s hard work ? Our community is constantly showing it's appreciation in many ways, from monetary donations . Our community has many ways they in addition express their appreciation letters, Emails, and face to face thank yours. How else can people help your department besides donating batteries ? Members of the community could communicate with the Fire Department and ask, in reference to a needed piece of equipment. Then start a community drive to raise monies to purchase the equipment.
