Muscatine Community School District has established a reputation throughout the state of Iowa as a leader in innovative educational practices. In the last several years, Muscatine Schools has implemented a number of innovative programs designed to prepare students for careers in the 21st century. These programs include but are not limited to: 1:1 Initiative, East Campus, Project Lead the Way, and The Leader in MeTM. Many staff also utilize standards-based grading and competency-based education.
Our district is located in the County of Muscatine, Iowa. It includes the towns of Fairport and Montpelier, as well as rural areas of Letts and Blue Grass. We are one of the largest employers in Muscatine, employing over 800 people.
The district consists of eight elementary schools (PK-5), two middle schools (6-8), one alternative school, and one high school totaling over 5,300 students.
Our district is the first district in the nation to implement The Leader in MeTM program in every elementary school. This is based on the book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen Covey.
The high school recently added eight advanced placement classes to its course schedule bringing the total number of AP classes offered to sixteen. This provides students the rigor necessary to leave high school college- and career-ready.
The district’s commitment to excellence is evident as it has adopted an ACT testing sequence beginning in 8th – 10th grades with the ACT Aspire test, requiring the ACT test prep course for 11th graders, and finally, all 11th graders will take the ACT test.
