Museum Campus

Description

Museum Campus is a 57acre park in Chicago that sits alongside Lake Michigan and encompasses five of the city's most notable attractions: the Adler Planetarium, America's first planetarium; the Shedd Aquarium; the Field Museum of Natural History; Soldier Field, home of the NFL Chicago Bears football team; and the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place. Museum Campus sits adjacent to Northerly Island along the waterfront.HistoryThe Museum Campus was created to transform the vicinity of three of the city's most notable museums – the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum of Natural History – along with Soldier Field stadium, into a scenic pedestrian-friendly area. The area is landscaped with greenery and flora as well as jogging paths and walkways. A picturesque promenade along Solidarity Drive, an isthmus, links Northerly Island to the mainland. The drive itself is lined with a number of grand bronze monuments commemorating Kościuszko, Havliček, and Nicholas Copernicus, the last of which is a replica of a famous 19th-century work in Warsaw by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen.

My wife and I had a fantastic time at the Field Museum. We were visiting Chicago and I insisted that we go here. First, it is a massive place with a lot of exhibits to take in. I recommend getting there when they open so you can take in as much as possible over the course of the day. We arrived an hour after they opened and still did not get to see everything by the time the museum closed. Seeing Sue the T-Rex was incredible. I did not imagine I would get the opportunity to visit and see Sue. She alone is worth the price of admission. The main attraction I wanted to see were the fabled Lions of Tsabo. I had heard the story about these lions from a young age and really wanted to see them. I was utterly amazed at how well they have been preserved and attended. When we visited it has been a few years now, there was an Ancient Egypt exhibit that was such a treat. You can easily spend hours in this exhibit alone with all the things to see and facts to read up on. This was one of the last exhibits we went to and it ultimately ended up being the last one we would see. We easily spent 2+ hours. The Field Museum is a must visit for anyone. We are looking forward to when we can take our son to visit Sue.
Field Museum was fun. The evolving earth, Sue, & the rest of the dinosaurs were the best part. The staff was setting up for an evening event around 3:30-4 and we felt like we were in their way while navigating the museum the last hour. Having signs up stating that would happen would have been good. Maybe there were signs and we missed them — Overall we had a great time.
We had only half a day here but our four year old and our 12 year old enjoyed it equally. We enjoyed it as well. Bathrooms were clean , they even had toddler areas with smaller toilets. We enjoyed all the exhibits and plan to return. It was nice to know even tho we could not use it because we are not Illinois residents they have a free day. As for food , there were two cafeteria type places and we ate at the one in the second level. Food was expensive $14 for a cheeseburger but the double patty with all the fixins, was much much better than anticipated. We were pleased and plan to return and we're just discussing yearly passes or the like. A very good family trip. We spent about four hours exploring and agreed we could have stayed an entire day at the least.
It's such a big awesome place. I was worried my 3 and 6 year old wouldn't be interested enough but we were there from open to close and still didn't get through 3 exhibits. The kids loved it they just got too tired. One negative due to covid- all drink machines were down except energy drinks and Starbucks vending. So there was nothing for kids even the drinking fountains are off unless you have a bottle and I didn't know to bring one.
Shedd Aquarium is awesome. Fully worth a visit to Chicago. The Field Museum is massive. We spent over 1 hour in one exhibit area. There are 3 floors with multiple exhibitions on each floor, the smaller children 8y/o wanted to go from point to point quickly while the older kids spent time reading the info plaques and watching the videos. It did get crowded in the Sue exhibit, as well as within the Ancient Americas exhibit. The staff were energetic and engaging, and answered my silly questions with science and humor. Even if one were outside of the buildings, the grounds are well manicured and clean. There are gardens and orchards to visit. The lake front walkway offers nice views of the lake, the museums' impressive exteriors and the city skyline.
I’ve grown up coming here and I’m not too young anymore. You can definitely spend several hours here very easily. We did and didn’t stop to read everything they had posted all over. The Jurassic Underwater Exhibition was good too. Seeing these animals in life size display was awesome.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$31+
This place is awesome the dolphins are so neat to watch plus the show is free!! The amount of different species of fish is surreal. We spent most of the day there and didn't see everything. The food court was pretty great, a lot of choices. AND the views of the lake! Even frozen it was beautiful Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entry$31+
One of the most amazing aquariums out there! Definitely spend most of your day here to explore. Amazing specimens here and some of the fish are the largest I've seen of their species. I would come back again!
We spent around 6 hours and only saw approximately 30 percent of the exhibits. First time we were lucky enough to experience the massive amount of informative and wonderful cultivated exhibits. Staff is courteous and informative. Highly recommend the city pass if you decide to take in some of the wonderful and amazing sights Chicago has to offer.
It's an amazing museum. There are a large number of animals from current and pre-historic times. We avail the free Illinois residents pass for family. One advise is to get book parking in advance or come by public transport. It can take more than 3 hours to complete.
