Such a tiny, hidden gem! Ok, compared with Chicago's Field Institute or NYs or DCs museums of natural history, it's zero stars. But for a tiny facility that is free and perhaps convenient during a visit to WS, it's delightful! Staff is on hand to answer questions and everyone was genuinely nice and concerned that my questions were answered. At one point, spouse and I were pondering a fine point of one of the exhibits. When we turned to the nearby receptionist a student to ask, he'd already started researching the question online! The exhibits change periodically and the only real cohesiveness is anthropology in general, but introductory panels provide an excellent overview of the many sub-specialties within the field. Clear efforts have been made to make the visit interactive, including an Escape Room option in the Africa room. Throughout, displays are nicely done with up to date and attractive signage and cases. There is clearly much love, great thought, and keen intelligence that goes into the exhibits and making this "mini museum" worth the hour it'll take you to enjoy it.
They were very protective of their artifacts, which I understand. They acted like 8 year olds were goingnto ruin things. Misses Smith was very informative with her talk.
I started taking my daughter to MOA when she was in the 3rd grade. It was around this time that she discovered the world of Archaeology and Anthropology. Since then they have expanded in multiple ways ands means. LAM MOA is the perfect spot for a day cation afternoon in Winston-Salem. The exhibits are varied and educational, they even offer an engaging scavenger hunt, which my young nephew Really enjoyed on our recent visit. What I really appreciate about MOA is their respect and responsibility for the native cultures, lands and people's they showcase throughout their museum. As a lover of history and geography, I emphasize with museums such as this on their role in both preserving and educating the community. I highly recommend LAM MOA for your next in Winston-Salem.
We had to go here for a field trip in my summer camp. The stuff there is very interesting, and the scavenger hunt we did was fun. The problem was, the last time I went here, they had spicy chocolate. PUT THE SPICY CHOCOLATE BACK ON THE TABLE PLEASE
With ever changing displays, you get a chance to learn about people and cultures across the world and through time. There are events for all ages, from activities for children to talks by archeologists and researchers. I love that my family and I learn something new with each visit.
I always learn something new each time I go to the MOA. They renovated their permanent displays in 2018, and the place looks great. WFU could have better signage on Wake Forest Road, however--the MOA is not easy to find.
Only slightly educational, and holds very basic information on The Day of the Dead, Evolution, Religion Judism, Christianity, and 2 others and a few ancient cizilations Chinese, Mayan, and Egyptian. Its ok to visit, although not extremely fun.
It's a small museum, but very well curated and organized. We have been there a few times and always thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits.
Interesting and aesthetically displayed artifacts. Special exhibitions from time to time.
Small but with several interesting pieces.
