Great FREE museum with some incredible specimens! They have a well curated collection of both fossils and mineral/rocks. The museum itself isn't spectacularly large, but if you really enjoy this kind of stuff, you can expect to spend at least 30 minutes looking at and reading about all the things on display. There is a small kids' area for the younger visitors, and there are bathrooms and a gift shop inside as well. Considering the geological history of the area, this is definitely worth a visit.
Truly nifty place to visit with both dinosaur fossils as well as many fossilized stones and gems. Not a huge facility but you can spend a long time there. Staff is very friendly and there's a small gift shop. You have to walk up two flights of stairs so be prepared. Restrooms are available be prepared that he'll be stepping back in time.
We enjoyed this diamond in the rough. We enjoyed walking through the exhibit. We had a great time absorbing the different rocks and bone specimen’s. I totally nerded out over the geologic finds. This is a free exhibit. Donations are excepted. There is a bathroom available.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
Free museum located on the campus of South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in the O'Harra building. On display are several paleontology exhibits and beautiful mineralogy exhibits. It is a small museum, but well worth a visit. Please note the front entrance of the building is under construction, there is a wheelchair accessible ramp and another public entrance at the rear of the building.
This is a free museum and it was absolutely amazing. There is a kid scavenger hunt that my daughter really enjoyed. The museum had fossils and rocks/gemstones. Don’t miss the rocks that glow!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Very awesome little Free museum at the SD University of Mines that has loads of great fossils, rocks and minerals! Two if my kids and I went, they asked if they can come back sometime, so we'll definitely go again!
Good place to go. Note that due to construction, the ramp is around back. Contrary to the posted signage, you do not use the ramp. You just use the rear entrance. Its on the third floor. Lots of samples and informative signs. I liked the dinosaur section. Wild skulls and skeletons.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
A great museum, lots of exhibits with excellent descriptions of what was being viewed. I would say this place has something for all ages, a great deal of history, fun activities for children, and no cost for entry. All they ask for are donations if you feel inclined, which for what they have to show I don't know why you wouldn't donate a few dollars to help keep the museum going, highly recommended.
Very neat collections of some animals I have never seen in fossils before! They were mostly native to the Badlands in South Dakota. It was very neat to learn this history.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
