What a treat this museum is! An exhaustive collection of art work from all over the world and the special shows were the cherry on top - particularly enjoyed the Piñata exhibit and paper mache art and the associated history; the Japanese Yokai exhibit on ghosts, demons, monsters was also great! Lot of interactive exercises that kept the kids busy and seemed like a lot of fun! The gift shop has some unique items from all over the world and was great to explore - almost like a treasure hunt. Plan for at least 3 hours for your visit. Maybe even plan for 4 hours if you are with kids. Also don’t forget to look up else you will miss some great artwork
Anyone who loves art should see this museum. I found myself marveling over weaving techniques for corn husks one moment, and the next I was leaning in to peer at the intricacies of beadwork. My father visited decades ago with his mother and says that the museum has grown into a beautiful, mature venue. The geek in me was so pleased to see that they included manga and anime into one corner, and even featured a fun Japanese style haunted house. The gift shop was lovely and filled with unique memorabilia and gifts. Outside, there looks to be an American style eatery just across the courtyard, and a contemplative maze to walk in silence. Once you get to the center, though, give a yell to experience the otherworldly effects!
Very nice museum. When I went there were exhibitions on Mexican paper mache art, Japanese ghosts and monsters, Inuit parka craftsmanship, and the huge exhibit of small figurines from all of Latin AmericaVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This was a gem! The Japanese horror exhibit was particularly interesting, though the rest was also fascinating. Highly recommend going here. So much to look at!
