No doubt about it, this is the best theater in the entire country. Every time I visit Chicago, a stop here is a must. They're always playing an amazing selection of films, plus they usually get them in 35mm, and if you're lucky 70mm. The crowds are always great, and you're pretty much guaranteed to have a great time anytime you go.
Always fun coming here, seats are comfortable and the view is pretty much good from anywhere. The fact that you can’t reserve specific seats is maybe not ideal, but there’s nothing wrong with waiting in line for a bit if you’re passionate about having the perfect seat, and otherwise there’s usually plenty of options left even after the line starts moving. Live organ music is such a nice touch.
I had a great experience here. They have and host themed events. I attended the HipHop 50th Anniversary event that featured the classic Brown Sugar film. It was hosted at their Garden- a section in the back where you sit outside where the weather is nice instead of being inside the theatre. I love the drink I had with Tequila called Hocus Pocus- a Halloween themed drink. Above all, I order tickets beforehand to a screening and had to cancel last minute due to emergency. They immediately accommodated me with saving my tickets for another event if I chose to come.
I can't believe there is a theater in Chicago that has been running since 1929!! Other places have been remodeled, but not this place. The seats remind me of all the people who have sat there over the years. What a slice of history!!
Amazing! Wonderful hearing Metropolis in a truly unplugged performance! New fans and LOVE the candlelight performances. A must try for everyone of ALL ages.
Great retro spot for movies in 70mm. Someone plays an organ while you wait for the movie to start. It’s an older theater so if you have long legs, you might get restless by the end of a movie. There is a lounge inside as well for a drink or small snacks. If you want a good seat for the movie, you’ll want to stand in line outside rather than wait in the lounge before the show starts.
WHAT AN AMAZING VENUE!!!!!! I had no idea the Music Box was here, or that it was so old. I'm very, VERY glad that it's still here!!! The decor is so beautifully classic!!! It's a great, great place ta see a movie.
Great little historic movie theatre in Chicago, one of the best around! They do all kinds of unique showings and I'm always down for a showing here.
Gorgeous theater with lovely atmosphere and acoustics. We saw the candlelight show here featuring Hanz Zimmer and the Metropolis String Quartet. The group put on a terrific performance, but also were funny and entertaining when speaking. We'd love to attend more concerts like this in the future!
Saw Oppenheimer here in 70mm. It was a great experience. The screen and sound were excellent. Loved the retro seating, lol.
