I was shamed for bringing my daughter to a crafting event today for Father's Day with her dad because one of the women helping with the event didn't think my daughter should have been there due to her age; she is almost 2.5. The Father's Day Plaque event did not have an age limit and to have a woman helping with these events tell me and my daughter "oh, she shouldn't be here, she's too young, she should be 5 to come to these crafts," doesn't seem to be her place to decide. I'm completely capable of deciding whether my daughter can do the crafts and I always register, which is required. I will continue to come to these events for my child, especially if there is something I know she will enjoy doing, but I'm not happy with how my family was treated today. The library itself has a larger kids section, which we enjoy.
Friendly staff, helpful. Book and resource choices are great. As part of the MADL, book requests are easy. They also have a seed library, host events and reading times, and have tables to do work or study at. Their kiss section has a couch to sit and readbwith your little one.
Adorable library with a very friendly staff. In addition to books and movies they offer mobile hotspots, video games, computer access, wireless printing, faxing, a seed library, and a wide variety of programs put on by both the library itself and also the Friends of the Library! This branch is part of the Muskegon Area District Library MADL system which has 10 branches and a book mobile. And MADL is part of the larger Lakeland Cooperative, so if there's a book or movie you're looking for they have many options to get it for you.
I love this library. It is deceivingly small when you first open the door to step inside, as it actually continues around the corner and has a decent collection of books to choose from. It is connected to the community center so when you walk in the front door, you will have to make a left turn and walk through another doorway. Sometimes the door to the library is shut, but no worries, there is a sign indicating it leads to the library and you can just open it and walk right in. I usually find it isn't too busy unless there is an event or class going on, which is nice. They do offer quite a lot of activities there for all ages though and that's pretty cool. There is a lovely little area for reading in the lobby between the library and community center, as well as a beautiful little park with a view of the lake right across the street, that has benches and a gazebo. Those would make peaceful reading spots too. Come check it out and a book too while you're at it!
Holly Pelkey is the librarian at North Muskegon Walker Memorial Library of MADL. When you walk in the door you automatically feel like if there is a heaven, it’s in this library. For most readers, writers, and book lovers in general, the library holds a special place of honor and respect in our hearts. Holly has done an exceptional job of making this library fun, inviting, and thought provoking through the use of plays, crafts, or music. You immediately know that the library in this community is multigenerational and has come to be beloved due, in part, to Holly’s impact. I’m not sure of the size of the staff or number of volunteers that contribute, but I do know they all make the place well-organized and engaging. Holly Pelkey’s personal commitment to this library is more than her affection for the people and the community; Holly believes and says “librarians live and die by First Amendment rights”. I believe that it’s not merely the library that connects us to books, but it connects us to people, and people like Holly are exceptional people to be connected to.

Love the library! I'm not happy with not being able to go in.
