Our campsite & the 2 lakes on site were great. The trails around the lakes were great for walking & had a few spots to pull off and watch the water or fish. The campground is right off the highway which made for convenient travel to the beach & other day trips but also made for loud traffic sounds at night, fine for anyone who doesn’t mind the white noise. Our main struggle with our experience was the bathrooms, similar to many other reviews listed. While we never expect much out of a camping bathroom, grateful for any kind of shower at the end of the day, the women’s bathroom did not appear to be cleaned for the duration of the 4 day stay, with two toilets remaining clogged for at least two days. The men’s bathroom had fecal matter smeared on the floor for over 12 hours & was not cleaned until complaints were made directly to the owner. While the location is nice & the staff in general was friendly, the professionalism of the owner leaves much to be desired. Blaming the mess of the facilities on the campers specifically kids rather than take responsibility or offer any apology to the patrons left quite the sour taste by the time we made our departure. Overall we had a nice stay up until our last day.
I'm so impressed with the management here. They checked daily to make sure everyone had a parking pass and allowed one vehicle per site which really helped keep traffic down with kids playing. The extra parking for the extra vehicle wasn't far from the camping sites. Everyone here was very nice and they kept everyone following the rules so everyone was able to have a nice time. We will definitely be back.
We found this location on short notice and were thankful to get a camping spot in the area. The price was good for the location. We’re national forest campers primarily so we’re accustomed to roughing it more than this location allowed for. We appreciated the shower house, even if it was dirty from heavy use. That’s understandable, it was a rainy week there. The nearby car racing track was loud on a Saturday night, and you could hear the highway from your site but again that’s not the fault of the campground. Our biggest problem was the management. We got confronted for gathering wood from the ground to use in our fire pit. We don’t like to buy wood, as it’s available at your feet and it helps keep the forest from being susceptible to forest fires. He was correct, we had gathered wood which was against their rules. He also accused us of cutting down trees and tearing up the wood perimeter of the campsite. That was not true but they slapped us with a 100 dollar damage fine anyway. I understand expecting your campers to follow the guidelines you have in place, and working to politely enforce them. However they did not enforce other rules, especially the rule about leaving campfires unattended. People would leave camp for the day with a fire still blazing away! This is truly a hazardous rule to overlook and yet as far as we know leaving a burning fire when you go is standard practice according to some regulars at the camp. Another rule they have is “don’t leave your wood stacked on the ground”. This is asinine. However it is a rule and as such they ought to enforce it if they have it in their contract. Again, didn’t see anyone called to account for stacked wood. All the employees were quite pleasant save for the manager. If you get on his bad side, or he’s been drinking heavily, you could end up breaking whatever rule he decides you’ve violated. Maybe bring him a 6 pack at the start of your stay just to get on his good side Bottom line- facilities were acceptable, price was good, employees great, manager awful
This was our first time here and last. The camp is located very close to the highway and therefore the noise was unbelievably loud all day and night. Specially at night was impossible to sleep and because of that we left earlier than we planned. The bathrooms are very small and in very bad conditions. Only one out of two showers worked and the taste of the water to wash your mouth was horrible take bottles of water. We love camping but this time was our worst experience ever.
The site was just plain dirt, with no grass in site. If the owner had a good business sense he would have upgraded us to a nicer site since the campground was mostly empty. The teenagers love the jumping pillow! 10 minutes to Michigan's Adventure made this park worthwhile.Service: 4/5
We stayed here for a few nights this last weekend and we absolutely loved it! My son made friends with all the children and everyone was so friendly! The staff included. The whole place is pretty close knit so we could see the lake from our site. There’s fishing and an additional fishing lake in the back off the walking trail that goes all the way around the campground. This campground is amazing and priced great too. We had a pull thru site and that’s what I will be requesting again. You do get what you pay for here, but we don’t require much when camping when it comes to the luxuries of life of campers. Very kid friendly and animal friendly as well! We definitely will be back as much as possible!
I wish I would have looked at reviews before staying I was wrong for assuming that since it was a KOA campground that I could expect to have a good experience. This was by far the worst camping experience we have ever had. The ONLY positive thing about this campground is its proximity to Michigan adventure. The camp ground itself is not maintained at all. It is dirty the water for full hook up is yellow. The “private lake” is disgusting. But the worst thing about this campground is how absolutely rude the staff here is. The owner being the WORST of them all. They are determined to argue with you about absolutely everything and make up rules along the way. It was so bad that we packed up a day early to avoid any further altercations with these irrational people. Although it appears if you are a “permanent “ camper here you are allowed to do anything you want. Don’t make the same mistake we did I am almost embarrassed at how much money me and the rest of our party spent at this campground.
We are new to camping but we still have good things to say about this place. The campsite was clean, had running water, and had an electric hook up. It was right on a small lake. It was large enough for our camper without feeling like we were cramped. We rode our electric pedal bikes around the lake and had lots of fun playing horse shoes. The play area also had a small basketball court with one net. Walkability: Has trails that is around the lake and was easily walked
Overall, we had a great experience here. I was worried when I read the reviews after booking, which is not like me. The campground is in a beautiful location and the cabin we had was very clean. Curtains needed replaced, but otherwise in great shape we have been to numerous KOA's; this cabin was better than many. The other reviews are true about the bathrooms: they need help/updating; we have definitely had far better ones at other locations. The water must have a lot of iron in it in this area, as I noticed many restrooms at other places gas stations, etc have the same reddish stains as the campground bathroom. The camp office/store was open much later here than many other locations, a big plus! No hours are posted, though, so you may want to call to find out closing time for that day if needed. The fire pits at the cabin sites are okay/functional, not nearly as nice as the ones for the tent/RV sites.
Very family friendly. The staff is all great and super helpful. The lake front tent site was so relaxing for morning coffee, overlooking the lake and the kids to play in the sand area. Playground, jumping pillow, raft in the lake, and ability to fish were all big hits with my kids too!
