I visited this fantastic facility last week because I was in quite a bit of pain. From the moment I entered to when I was discharged, I was met with superlative care from some of the most angelic people I have ever met. The triage nurse was warm and reassuring, the technicians were all so polite and caring, and my physician was absolutely wonderful. Dr. Pitcher's approach was so therapeutic. He tended to my every need. He left no stone unturned and was able to pinpoint exactly what was causing my ailments. He may be the best doctor I have ever seen. I know no one ever wants to go the hospital, but if you're are a resident of Muskoka, you can sleep easy knowing that we have the most wonderful hospital with even better staff.
Went in to check for internal bleeding after an accident. I waited 6+hours only to see a nurse, who was nice. But no sign of a doctor. They took blood work within the first hour so you would think that would result in you getting checked out reasonably quickly.. An hour later I was told my blood work looked fine so I continued to wait. Apparently bleeding from unusual places for 24 hours after a car accident aren’t enough reasons to warrant getting seen by a doctor within 6 hours. Got into triage at 3pm and around 8pm decided I had enough of laying in a gound with a needle in my arm nothing attached, previously for blood work & being told that it shouldn’t be much longer. I ended up waking out of the triage room in which the staff showed no concern. There was also very little communication. Not sure if you’re supposed to just sit there for hours on end with no update but it may be a good practice to make your patients feel more valued and cared for, especially being a hospital. Only giving the extra star because of how friendly/nice one of the nurses was.
After reading some of the bad reviews, I must admit I was a little nervous heading to this hospital for the first time. To my surprise, I actually had a wonderful experience well, as good of an experience as you can have at a hospital I guess. When I arrived in emerg, I was greeted by a lovely, polite woman at the information booth. She provided me with some direction on what to do and where to go. Triage was well organized and moved quickly. After a brief wait approx. 45 minutes, I was called into a room where I had some blood work done. Both Michelle and Matthew were very pleasant. After another brief wait, Dr. Dawson came in to provide me with the results of my tests. She was very polite and informative and answered all questions I had. By the end of it, I was in and out in under 2.5 hours. This was a much more organized experience than other hospitals I have been to, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Been to this hospital twice since moving to Gravenhurst and both times were very fast and pleasant experiences. Doctor and nurses were very accommodating, friendly and made the experience as good as it could be. Both times I was thoroughly examined. I felt like they took me very seriously. I’ve been to other hospitals where I felt dismissed and overlooked. This was not the case here. Thank you
The nurses and all hospital staff that provided me with care over the past week were professional, efficient and made a challenging time so much easier. They provide excellent care and would not hesitate to go there again.
An absolute joke. Waited hours to see the doctor. Staff in the centre not doing any work only chatting about their social life. Security guard not doing his job. Sat chatting away like it’s a coffee break. He seemed more interested in the nurses personal life’s than doing his job. Pathetic to say the least. Three people in the waiting area yet it took hours to be seen.
I was given excellent care in emergency by the Drs, all the nurses were kind and thoughtful. The blood technician was fast and had no problem getting my difficult veins. The ultrasound technician was kind and professional. The room was clean and they brought me warm blankets. Durning a stressful time and managing through a pandemic the staff did a great job. I am thankful for their care and the time they all took with me to make sure I was ok. There was also follow up which was very much appreciated.
This place is an absolute joke. If you were dying on the sidewalk outside of this hospital you’d have a better chance of walking to barrie’s hospital to get service. Service inside this hospital is non existent, and when you do get service, it’s garbage. You waste your time for garbage service. Only the cleaning ladies in this hospital deserve respect
Long story- for anyone that cares or wants a long read but I have been feeling generally unwell for quite some time now. Hot/cold flashes, nausea, vision troubles etc etc. So on Saturday night I drove myself to Orillia hospital because I was feeling even more unwell and having severe pain in my tail bone which is something I’ve never felt and I did not take a fall or have an injury. I ended up waiting for about 6 hours for a doctor to see me. Which is fair the hospitals are so busy and I know they use priority sequence so if I wasn’t being seen someone else who need it it more was. But when he finally did get to me, he talked over me and was not interested in what I had to say. He ran no scans or tests and sent me away saying it was probably just a injury from the gym and to give it a rest, Ice my bum lol and to rest take Tylenol and Advil and if after doing all that then I could follow up with my family Dr. or fo back to ER on Wednesday. I begged him to consider other possibilities and asked him to feel a spot that was very painful and slightly swollen but he was not interested in doing more tests or having a second look, so I went home and followed his orders. Fast forward to last night the 4th my official Birthday around midnight when I started vomiting and heaving worse than anything I’ve seen before. It went on for about 5 hours and I told myself it was from all the Tylenol and Advil I’ve been taking could have upset my stomach. Until about 5am I had no choice but to wake Mike up and ask him to call me an ambulance, even tho I drove myself to Orillia the night before I physically now could not drive up the hill to Bracebridge hospitals Thank god I made it here when I did and listened to my body instead of the doctor from Orillia . My body has been trying to tell me something was very wrong for a long time. I cannot stress this enough. Listen to your body and advocate for yourself and your healthcare. My birthday consisted of me being poked with needles like a pin cushion, had an ultrasound and my first every cat scan done. It was a very scary and intense day for me. I’ve finally got the answers I’ve been looking for and am all fixed up now. I had a very large internal abscess that you could not see with the naked eye- but I swear I could feel it with my handa the abscess had burst and was leaking into me and causing me to go SEPTIC. Dr. Reid was absolutely amazing and literally saved my life and my babies Moms life yesterday. She said she could not believe I survived that long in that pain and that if I waiting till Wednesday like the DR. In Orillia ER things could have turned lit very differently and I could have Died. I am beyond thankful for the compassionate and caring staff at SMMH the who looked after me today. I still can’t decide if it was the worst birthday or the best birthday because they literally saved my life. Just wanted to say thank you all and Im really glad none of you will be attending my funeral too soon. Also wanted to tell you all to listen to your gut feeling and me we ignore something when you think it’s not right, and advocate for you self and your healthcare until you get the proper answers.
Took our baby to the ER tonight. We were in and out in under an hour. The lady working the check in desk was so sweet, cooing over our baby even though she was sick. She offered to watch our stroller for us so we didn’t have to wheel it around. The lady working the Switchboard was lovely and personable even at 11pm. Dr. McGregor was kind, patient, and explained everything to us with compassion. The nurse Michelle was excellent, too. Dr. McGregor invited us back in the morning for a weigh in. Great small-town service that makes us grateful to live in Bracebridge.
