Myrtle Beach State Park Campground
"Along the far-reaching stretch of Grand Strand coastline, Myrtle Beach State Park sits nestled among oceanfront maritime forest. A quiet, and surprisingly green, escape from the otherwise bustling beach, the park provides educational opportunities, a nature trail and some of the best surf fishing South Carolina has to offer as well as stunning ocean views and another great fishing spot on Myrtle Beach pier.As far as Myrtle Beach campgrounds go, the parks’ is among the most popular, providing guests with Myrtle Beach pier and shoreline access as well as cozy sites tucked away under the towering trees. If the Myrtle Beach campgrounds aren’t for you, overnight guests may also stay in one of six rental cabins, built by the CCC in the 1930s."

We were looking forward to visiting this park. I have to say the person on the gate was so polite and so helpful a very pleasant surprise as you rarely get that in south Florida where we live. He also gave us a few useful hints including telling us the entry receipt would give us free entry into a close by State Park called Huntington Beach State Park if went the same day. The parks are open until 10pm so very doable in a day. There are so many small parking lots to give you a different location to visit within the park. There is a pier which is advertised as “it’s always free to walk on our pier”, but of course the entry charge to the park of $8 per adult, without any reduction for seniors or locals etc, means you are paying really. Be aware pets are not allowed on the pier and you have to go through the gift shop to enter so you will be checked. We also saw a pod of Dolphin swim by the pier and no matter how often you see that that it is still a sight that warms your heart. The camp ground offered lots of shade and is very close to the beach but does not offer beach views as far as we could tell. The beach is very clean with fine white sand and is great to walk on as it has a very firm base near the waterline. We went in March so it was pretty quiet. There are walking trails through the trees which are not over taxing, but be prepared to appear from your trail in a different spot to your car. This didn’t bother us but it will mean you have to navigate your way back to your car. All part of the fun for us and it gave another opportunity to investigate this park and continue to enjoy a very relaxing time in the cold but on a bright sunny blue sky day.
I gotta admit the South Carolina State Park at Myrtle Beach was better than I expected. We were on a sandy campsite, but compared to the commercial campgrounds nearby it was big and relatively private. Also they have lots of shower/bathroom/laundry facilities, more than I've seen at any other campground and more than is shown on the website. The interior roads were paved and the almost all of the campsites pretty big, but are sand/dirt. They also have a nice camp store, nature center/trails and of course a GREAT beach with free fishing pier. If you forget any 'beachy' stuff there's another gift shop as you walk into the pier. Of course the best thing for me was the price and at $70/night it was about half the cost of the other campgrounds nearby. Playground: One really nice playground just off the beach Picnic area: A LOT of shaded spots under the trees
Myrtle Beach State Park is a coastal gem! Pristine beaches, lush forests, wildlife, and camping make it a nature lover's paradise. Explore scenic trails, visit the educational nature center, and escape to the serene beauty of the South Carolina coast. #MyrtleBeachStatePark
A beautiful state park. I love sitting on the open, uncrowded beach watching the pier fisherman, the body surfers, and the castle builders. In the early morning, you'll see the sunrise and the shark tooth/seashell hunters. A little bit of paradise. Amenities include a nature center, park store, trails, picnic tables, adventures, and classes given by the ranger staff. Do as much or as little as you like. Just do it! Psssst, don't give away this special location, it will get too crowded!
Absolutely stunning piers and view. I went there in the morning to watch the sunrise and it was so pretty. Loved the spot. peaceful, beautiful beach, breeze and captivating sunrise spot. Underrated, most visit.
So far so good. Very accommodating, decent facilities. Had a problem with a neighbor camper being obnoxiously loud and drinking well after hours, Rangers took care of it almost immediately. It's just a short walk to the beach but you have the option to drive.
Wonderful campground with friendly, professional personnel. Clean shower house and functioning laundromat. We loved the easy access to the beach. The campground can be a little noisy depending the flight pattern at the airport. We stayed at site 142 and were able to get intermittent Starlink signal, this campground has lost of trees.
We camped in the overflow camp ground. It was much more secluded than the main camp. Even though the sites were very close together, it felt much more like camping. The walking distance from the beach being so short made the closeness worth it. I have to drop one star because I didn't expect how many roaches I would encounter. I'm also not a local, so I would not have expected seeing some so big. A very well-fed raccoon also lives in the park. I saw many adorable creatures on my visit, but just a warning that it's not afraid of getting close. Other than that it is a very well maintained park, all staff are friendly, and there are tons of things to do.
PROS: For families it's great, fantastic beach access to one of the world's best beaches, loops of campground roads to ride bikes, playgrounds, Interpretive programs, game areas, laundry, store, close to main drag and all MB has to offer... action packed! Fairly quiet after 9:30 pm. Staff are efficient, friendly and genuine. CONS:The first plane took off at 5:20 this a.m. directly overhead. The restroom floors are a muddy slippery mess all day there are fans/ac units but not operating. Showers in 2023 need LOCKABLE doors. Biking in park is taking your life in your hands because of fast cars and narrow roads. If you like real nature and space this isn't really your campground!
Easy to find and the roadway isn’t to narrow so a big rig should have no issues getting around. The host station where you check in at is right in front of the campground area. The sites are mostly shaded and the best ones are on circles 5 & 6. We stayed in circle 3 due to availability. The sites are also close to each other some in the lower circles too close together for my liking so you are going to definitely hear your neighbors conversations and the like. The electric and water pressures were stable. Plenty of bathhouses, bathrooms, and there were two laundry areas. Verizon’s cellular signal was ok, but lagged a little during peak hours. The walk to the ocean or any other amenity/park attraction are easy to get to & close by. Note: Be warned there is a major airport near by and the park is near the end of one of the runways. We noted the flight times between 0730 a.m.-0800 p.m. The host ran out of wood for two days. So you might want to pick up some local wood elsewhere just in case.
