Our Nacho’s family story
Nacho's founder and our grandfather Ignacio Loza Meza, was born in 1920, in Laredo, Texas. He was one of 13 children born to a poor, but hardworking, itinerant family. In 1942, in San Fernando, California, he met and married our grandmother, the beautiful Cecilia.
It had always been grandpa's dream to own and operate a small restaurant of his own, but with a wife and 6 kids to feed, that dream was far from becoming a reality. Finally, in 1954, he opened his first business located in San Fernando Park, in the city of San Fernando, which all of the kids referred to as "The Stand." At "The Stand,” they initially began by selling hamburgers, hotdogs, cotton candy and snow cones. Soon however, the customers began requesting the delicious, flavorful burritos and tacos that grandpa would prepare on the grill for himself. They would quite often remark, "Hey, Nacho, what is that you're making? It smells so good!"
At that time, the demand for home style Mexican food was just beginning to be recognized, and Nacho's was one of the first Ma & Pa Mexican restaurants to become established. Their first Nacho's was opened in 1962, on the corner of Laurel Canyon and Brand Blvd., in the Mission City of San Fernando, California.
Rebecca (Nacho’s daughter) and Ronald D. Lowe bought the first Nacho's in San Fernando, when grandpa retired in 1975. They soon opened this second Nacho's located here in Granada Hills, California in 1978, starting a near 40-year valley favorite.
Unfortunately the time has come for us to sell the Nacho's family business property and land that we have been blessed with to serve the surrounding community for over 43 years. We thank all of you for your patronage for so many wonderful years. The Nacho's business will close it's doors one final time, on Sunday August 27th, so if your friends or family haven't been in a while, please pass the word along and let them know in case they would like to have one last chance to enjoy their favorite burrito, taco, chili relleno, etc.
Please note that we have not sold the Nacho’s family business, name, logo, recipes, etc. We have only sold the building and land, so whatever business comes next, please note that neither Nacho’s nor our family, is affiliated with it any manner.
