Official website of the Narragansett Firefighters, IAFF Local 1589
On December 13, 1965, Local 1589 of the International Association of Fire Fighters was chartered in the Town of Narragansett. Since 1965 a lot has changed in the town of Narragansett. The fire department headquarters moved from Rodman Street to Caswell St. and the size of the department was doubled in order to keep up with a growing population and demand for fire services. Run numbers have risen, new equipment purchased, and many specialized services are now offered by the 34 members of Local 1589. We strive every day to bring a high level of professionalism and service to our residents and to make the founders of our unions proud.
The department is divided into three stations. Station 1, which is the headquarters of the department is home to Engine 1, Rescue 1, Ladder 1, Unit 1, Marine 1, and the offices of the chief and fire marshal. Station 2 is home to Engine 2 and Rescue 2, and Station 3 is the home of Engine 3 and Rescue 3.
The primary objective of the Narragansett Fire Department is the protection of human life and property from fire, the prevention and suppression of fire, and to provide emergency medical service to the Town of Narragansett.
In addition, it shall be the prompt duty of the Fire Department to remove or cause the removal of all persons from danger whatever the cause whenever humanly possible
