Description

"All Nations welcome but Carrie."

THE STORY OF NATION

At the turn of the 20th century, 6' tall Kentucky-born Carrie Nation ravaged bars across America. Wielding a hatchet, she claimed a divine ordinance to promote temperance by smashing any tavern and saloon that crossed her path. The slogan All Nations welcome but Carrie became a bar-room staple.

Between 1900 and 1910, Carrie was arrested 30 times for her 'hatchetations' until she arrived in Cincinnati. Receiving word of her impending visit, Over-The-Rhine bar owners braced for the worst. Yet upon her arrival Carrie took one step onto Vine street, turned around and left.

When asked why she did not follow her usual path of destruction, Carrie's response was

“I would have dropped from exhaustion before I went one block for all the bars in this city."

Nation serves as a tribute to the rich history of this city and neighborhood. It is meant to be an extension of your living room, a place for gathering neighbors, and a foundation for building community.

There are very few places that serves tots as a side, but Nation takes it a step further with toppings for the tots. They also server sweet potato tots which are also really delicious! I ordered the burger of the month which was the Five Alarm Burger and it's a burger I would give a 5 out of 5. Everything was fresh and the buns were perfectly toasted and soft.
My boyfriend and I were visiting from Nashville and omg - the food and drinks here are delicious! We were seated immediately on a Saturday evening and had our food and drinks within a very short amount of time. The outdoor seating area is adorable and dog friendly as well.Food: 5/5
Stopped in here a few days a ago with a buddy of mine & my mom, we all loved it! Wonderful atmosphere and wonderful food. Allie the bartender/server was amazing! Stop by and try The Hatchet sometime, wonderful blend of flavor with the perfect amount of spice. Don't say no to a good time!Food: 5/5
I'm going to give this place the benefit of the doubt and say that I think they're probably better than my experience and I'm sure that when they're busy and in full stride, their food is more 4 star-ish than a 3. I ordered a Nation burger, my wife ordered the Quesadilla, and our friend ordered the Memphis BBQ burger. I was surprised when we weren't asked how we'd like our burger down. Mine was served a solid medium and I like it a little more rare but it wasn't overcooked. The bun seemed dry, almost as if it were slightly stale and the burger needed more sauce. My wife had the same sauce issue with her Quesadilla burger, which to me resembled a patty melt wrapped in a tortilla. The Tots, Totcho style, were the hit of the table, and I could see where a big plate of these along with a few beers would cause you to give this place two thumbs up. The corn dog appetizer was a winner as well. I'm use to a more savory version of this but the honey flavor in the corn batter definitely wasn't offensive at all - in fact, quite nice. The honey mustard sauce accentuated the sweetness of the corn dog a little too much to my liking and the siracha in the siracha ketchup got lost to the sweetness of the ketchup and the honey in the corndog batter. Still, not a bad appetizer and definitely something that would complement a few good beers. I might give this place a 2nd look during busier hours because I loved the location and the building they were in. If you go, make sure you take a trip down the block to the ice cream store that is there - worth the trip, especially their espresso soft serve ice cream!
Delicious vegetarian options with the black bean burger! Any meat burger can be replaced with a black bean patty which is nice. Fries and chips are both amazing as well. Great deal if you come on Tuesday!
Our family hit this place up before a Reds game. They weren’t lying about having great burgers. SO good!! If you like to eat low carb, skip it in order to eat the bun on the burger. It is worth every calorie. And how do they get their tater tots to be so light and crunchy? Great ambience and service too. I definitely want to explore more items on the menu.
Food was good. Service started out good but our server quickly became overwhelmed as the restaurant filled up. A large table near us was also very loud and demanding of the server causing a bit of an uneasiness. Seems like just an off night, the food is worth giving it another chance.Food: 5/5
If it's a beautiful day in downtown Cincinnati and you want to enjoy a good casual dining experience outside, head over to the Pendleton area in Over The Rhine to Nation Kitchen & Bar. Good draft beer selection too. Left to right, you will see Guinness Stout, Sonder's You Betcha Hazy Juicy IPA, The Phoenix, The Hangover Burger and The Temperance Burger. Very reasonable prices and completely satisfied.
Great service, fun atmosphere and backstory, the food was amazing! The burgers were very tasty we got the nation and the temperance, fries were yummy, and we tried the chocolate mousse brownie dessert which was very light and fluffy which was perfect because we were so full but still wanted to try it. The burgers weren’t overly greasy but still had their moisture and flavor and the produce was fresh and the bacon was good, a little tough but good. Burgers held together well and were the perfect portion! 10/10
We went there for brunch and had a reservation for 6. They put us at 3 separate tables. It took over an hour for the server to take the order. Once placed one table received the order and no other tables received their. We told the manager expecting him to assist and he said “sorry bro.” Horrible service, but the cheese curds were decent.
