NPS Fire and Aviation Management is dedicated to leadership, collaboration, and safety. Its proactive programs go beyond emergency services.
National Park Service Fire and Aviation Management is made up of three operational groups: Aviation, Structural Fire, and Wildland Fire.
The NPS aviation program assists in many different areas of the Service, including resource management, law enforcement, search and rescue, personnel transportation, and wildland fire support.
The NPS structural fire program focuses on prevention, education, and suppression, so that the 27,000 buildings in the care of the National Park Service are there for future generations. Many are national icons such as the Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall, and homes of presidents.
The NPS wildland fire program plans for the inevitable unwanted fire and promotes the use of fire as a land management tool where appropriate. The goal is to restore and maintain fire's role as a dynamic and necessary natural process where it is beneficial, and prevent or suppress fire where it has the potential to damage resources.
The National Park Service Division of Fire and Aviation Management through leadership, collaboration, and the implementation of risk reduction practices will hold ourselves accountable in working to integrate our plans and actions with all disciplines within the Service to ensure the well-being of our employees and the public we serve, while protecting the resources we manage.
