Childcare,Preschool; science, math, writing, art/crafts and dramatic play, guide the children to grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
Children need quality, reliable daycare in order to thrive and grow. This is most crucial in the earliest years when children are developing at a phenomenal rate. Consistency of care is most important. I believe that this type of care is best provided by a home care situation where the child interacts with the same caregiver all day, each day. Through a mixture of guided and undirected creative play, children in my care have the opportunity to learn about colors, shapes, textures, numbers, letters, weather, seasons, animals, feelings, senses, nutrition, personal hygiene, manners, self control, basic science and math concepts, and creative concepts such as pretend play, art, music and movement, drama and dance. These may sound like lofty goals for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, but most children learn all of these and more through creative educational play. By providing the right kind of fun safe environment, I believe the children will learn all of these and more while learning at their own pace. Children need to feel they are getting quality attention from the adults in their lives, and they also benefit from lots of one-on-one care.
I have learned any moment is a teachable moment. A child hands you a plate, ask what color it is, what letter do they think plate starts with, count how many plates are in the dramatic play area. We love reading books and through those books we have conversations about so many topics. We have "writing books" to learn to hold a pencil and write letters. I like Mother Goose preschool curriculum but use many others during our preschool time. The rest of the day is usually hands on activities and conversations.
