Just off of Rt 12, 15 minutes from Devils Lake State Park lies a natural gem. There is a parking lot off of County Route C. The trail is fairly marked. After following the path for 0.6 miles you will come upon the rock formation. Nestled in the forest lies the natural bridge with a cave underneath. I recommend doing adding this location to any itinerary that includes Wisconsin Dells and Baraboo.
Natural Bridge State Park is a picturesque nature preserve located in North Freedom, Wisconsin. The park is named after the natural bridge, which is a striking arch rock formation. The bridge was created by the erosion of the underlying sandstone and is considered to be a geological marvel. Native American Indians regarded the natural bridge a place for worship, as the rock arch was regarded as the work of the Great Spirit. Beneath the arch is a excavated rock-shelter which was inhabited by Paleo Indians. Truly one of the most sacred places in Sauk County to preserve.
Great place to wander around and explore. The view at the lookout would be better early in the spring before the trees have leaves or perhaps late in the fall with leaves in full color. The natural bridge is fantastic and takes you back to an earlier time in history. The trails were slightly overgrown with thorns from berries, so long pants and sleeves are not a bad idea. Restrooms: Did not see them. Pretty sure they don't exist.
Ample parking, not many people there while we visited. Short walk that is family friendly to the natural bridge. Well groomed trails. Dog friendly.
Small walk in a wood to see the bridge. Good trails to walk but some areas are hard to walk as a trail. It's is covered by bushes
Amazing rock formation in a beautiful setting. Loop trail of 1m. Bug free. Requires state park fee or pass. Dog-friendliness: On leash. Suitable trail for hardy dogs
Such a cool spot with overlooked or under appreciated history! The hike to bridge maybe takes 10 minutes, slight uphill climb but super manageable for most people! The rock formation is super impressive. It’s a amount of cluster of outcrops and small bluffs, and the main loop takes you by most of them in the small valley. Indigenous peoples inhabited the area some 10,000 years ago and continued to for thousands of years! Just one hour from Madison, another amazing Wisconsin hike!!
Shame on you Wisconsin for charging people to visit this unkempt area! You have to walk around and climb over down trees. No restrooms. $16! Is just ridiculous! Such a wonderful natural wonder you have and don't even care about, but are still charging. Restrooms: There are none eventthough it says there are. Picnic area: None. Plenty of long grass to sit in.
Great short hike! Bathrooms are permanently closed, there are no picnic tables either. Probably one of the lesser known state parks. There is no office here.
Nice, small state park with a scenic drive to reach it. The highlight is the natural bridge. Be aware that there are no longer bathrooms or picnic area. Trails to the bridge were easy to follow, however other trails were overgrown and need better maintenance.
