NC’s TRiO SSS program serves 300 students who meet certain eligibility requirements.
Navarro College (NC) TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program designed to help eligible students earn an associate’s degree and transfer to a four-year school to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Founded by the U.S. Department of Education, NC TRiO SSS offers its participants an array of services designed to make their college careers successful. From an assigned TRiO SSS Advisor who is dedicated to each student’s success to free tutoring and success workshops, participation in TRiO helps students make the most of their college education.
The Federal TRiO programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRiO includes eight outreach programs targeted to serve and assist low income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to baccalaureate programs. The term “TRiO” was coined in the late 1980s to describe the original three programs which are Education Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Student Support Services.
