NC Center for Resiliency is a mental health organization that is focused on resiliency using a psycho biological approach.
What do we offer that is different?
The field of mental health is changing and NCCR is on the front end of this change. Our mental health therapists are trained as traditional talk therapists and additionally in practices related to restoring balance in the autonomic nervous system and physiological coherence. We know that experiences of safety, danger, and life threat get woven into personal narratives and become beyond conscious control. Our work is aimed at addressing the underlying traumatic stress that is stored in the autonomic nervous system which can be beneficial to the healing of both mental and physical health conditions. All therapists at NCCR are trained in various forms of somatic practices in addition to their core specialties.

We at NCCR believe that the body has its own innate intelligence to heal. Our primary goal at NCCR to assist you in understanding the language of your body so that you can reach an optimal state of psychological and relational functioning.
What is a psychobiological approach?
A psychobiological approach differs from traditional talk therapy in that this approach recognizes that emotion and cognition effect a person's physiology. Psychobiology is a branch of psychology that studies the interactions between biology and behavior especially as it is exhibited in the nervous system. Our therapists at NCCR will discuss areas of diet, nutrition, exercise, social engagement and may include touch work when indicated with clients as well as teach somatic mindfulness skills.
What is coherence?
Coherence is a term used by scientists to describe a highly efficient physiological state in which the nervous system, cardiovascular, hormonal and immune systems are working efficiently and harmoniously. Coherence has been identified by some athletes as "the zone" and some meditation instructors as "the flow". Essentially coherence is the target HRV (Heart Rate Variability) zone for all healing systems of the body to function at its highest potential and for emotional balance.
Who is our typical client?
While we see a diverse population here at NCCR, we typically see clients who want a targeted approach to medications, want to get off of medications that are not working or want to avoid medications all together. We see both clients that are new to the area of mental health or those that are quite familiar with their own self growth. Our services address mental and emotional health through psycho biological approaches of balancing the autonomic nervous system. We also know that lifestyle, diet and nutrition can also effect a person's mental health since all of our neurotransmitters for our brain are found in our gut. If our body is not working right, then either is our brain. Our network of contract providers include physicians, psychiatrists, nutritionists, and naturopathic doctors who can address your neurophysiology through testing and medication or nutritional supplementation. We have found that addressing any imbalances of the body can have significant changes to a person's neurochemistry and treatment success.
