Personalized learning within a community
Neighborhood School (NS) is an independent school in Jamaica Plain, MA. Started by parents and teachers with just 7 children in 1986, it has grown to include 60 students at 2 sites with students ages 4-12, grouped into 4 mixed-age classroom or levels. Mixed ages ensure that students have different positions in a level's age continuum from year to year and help create an atmosphere of normalcy for many layers of learning to happen simultaneously.
Neighborhood School strives to provide a high-quality educational experience for students of varied backgrounds and abilities. NS does not discriminate on the basis or race, gender, religion, family structure, national or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or handicap in administration of its educational and admissions policies, financial aid, and other school administered programs.
