Great experience. Had the sampler 33 based on the recommendation of the owner. Really good healthy food! Very authentic cuisine. I can't believe I passed up this place for so many years. I will certainly be back!
The food here is great, this is my favorite place in Oakland for Shawarma. The guy working the counter during lunch is always friendly, and I have never had a meal messed up. There is not a lot of seating here, but it seems like a lot of people get take-out and so I have never gone there and not found a seat.
Delicious, reasonably priced for the area. Great presentation as well.
I absolutely love Nellie’s! This is a family owned shop and when you dine in or take out you’re sure to feel like you’re family too! Great food and I believe I’ve had everything on their menu plus extras from the back, and everything is delicious. Great prices. Please do note that it closes early - its a lunch/early dinner joint. Don’t skip on dessert, you won’t regret it.
I have had many experiences here. Mine are a bit different, since I am fortunate to know the staff through a family connection. That said, even aside from those experiences the food and the service are both good enough that I don't really bother with any other middle eastern restaurants in the whole city of Pittsburgh. If I'm in the mood for some tasty, well made hummus, baklava, gyro, or anything else, I go to Nellie's, and you should too. Now, I will admit that it isn't much for ambience - when I eat in I do it for the conversation, not the decor - but when the food is that good, who cares?
On 5/7/14 I was craving for a gyro so badly and the only place I could go to in Oakland on my lunch break was NELLIE DINER!!!!! Boy why did I????? It was AWFUL the meat, sauce, bread was nothing like how a gyro suppose to taste compare to MIKE & TONY'S on the Southside. To top everything off I used a debit card and the gentleman act as if it was shocking for me to ask for a receipt. I don't know about some people but I like a receipt when I am using my card so that I can balance out my checkbook at the end of the day. I have never got online to post a review for anything. But I felt as though this was very much needed, I have heard that it was go good place to eat butttttt first impression is the BEST
Bought a chicken schwarma and fattoush. Terrible. Doesn't taste at all like the kind I've had from other places. I moved here from Michigan and Bucharest Grill in Detroit had the most amazing schwarmas. The one I had for take out was mushy the pita and veggies were mushy and the dressing was watery and not flavorful. The fattoush was underwhelming too. The lettuce wasn't crisp and the dressing was oily with minimal flavor. When you eat fattoush, typically you expect that zesty well-seasoned flavor of the dressing and that was definitely missing. Based on the cost and quality, will not be going back!
Their food was decent, but it definitely does not compete with other Middle Eastern establishments in Pittsburgh; however, it is very convenient if you work or attend school in/around Oakland.
Really enjoyed everything I got from here. Stayed at the hospital a few weeks, so I got to try most things on the menu. It was my favorite place nearby.
Completely edible. It's the McDonald's of Middle eastern food. If don't mind the hand washing optional atmosphere, its ok.
