According to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a person with a disability is someone who has a physical or mental impairment, has a history of impairment, or is believed to have a disability that substantially limits one or more of the major life activitiies. Major life activites include learning, speaking, working, hearing, seeing, breathing, caring for oneself, walking or performing manual tasks.
It is the goal of Northeast State Community College to ensure equal educational opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The Center for Students with Disabilities provides services and academic accomodations for students with disabilities who self-identify as having a disability and provide appropriate documentation of the disability. Any student wishing to obtain services must contact the Center for Students with Disabilities.
How to initiate services: Contact CSD by phone or in person. Provide written documentation of your disability. The coordinator will review the documentation & inform the student if additional info is required. Schedule needs assessments. The coordinator will determine with the student appropriate accommodations and support services to be provided.
Reasonable accomodations are determined for each individual based on disability documentation, professional recommendations, and the impact of the disability in an educational setting. Students with disabilities are advised to initiate services at least three weeks before scheduled classes or test dates.

-Extended time on tests
-Alternative testing location
-Note-takers
-Scribes
-Interpreters for deaf/hard of hearing
-Alternative seating arrangements
-Tape recording of class lectures
