Programs
Skilled Nursing Services: Wound Care
Chronic wounds and slow healing ulcers are a significant health problem in the United States. Wounds can be caused by a disease process, trauma, or pressure. Screening to find those residents who are at high risk for wounds is the first step for preventive measures. Routine head-to-toe assessments assist the clinical team in prevention and promote healing.
Residents’ physicians and treatment nurses, along with the other clinicians on the multidisciplinary team work with the resident and their families on a treatment plan.
Skilled Nursing Services: IV Therapy
IV therapy may be prescribed for people who are dehydrated, who need antibiotic therapy, who are unable to eat regular food and need a special nutritional formula or for other medical conditions.
Intravenous therapy is a potential admission criteria for a geriatric patient to a skilled nursing facility. With today’s shortened hospital stays, more patients are placed in facilities that offer Skilled Nursing Services. This setting provides also an alternative to hospitalization if a resident requires I.V. therapy. An aging population, federal programs for the elderly and economic health care considerations are factors that contributed to the emergence of this setting. Projections suggest that I.V. therapy will become a more frequent treatment modality.
Skilled Nursing Services: Enteral Feeding
Enteral Nutrition is an alternative way people can receive the food they need. Also called “tube feeding,” Enteral Nutrition is a mixture of all the needed nutrients. It is thicker than parenteral nutrition and sometimes looks like a milk shake. It is given through a tube in the stomach or small intestine.
24/7 Licensed Nursing Care: Respite Care
Respite Care offers temporary relief for families and caregivers of people with disabilities or other special needs. Overnight, weekend or longer stay options are available to give caregivers time away while the resident continues to receive the special care they require. Nutritious meals, assistance with activities of daily living and activities to fit the needs of the resident are provided by the facility.
24/7 Licensed Nursing Care: Adult DayCare
Adult DayCare is designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities or other special needs for shorter periods of time. The services are offered in a protective setting during any part of the day, but less than twenty-four hours per day.
Adult DayCare is available at New Boston Health Care. Weekend and evening care is also available, please make arrangements in advanced if you are interested in Adult DayCare after hours. Please contact us for more information.
Infection Control
Infectious diseases can be minimized or eliminated with proper Infection Control Protocol. A coordinated multidisciplinary approach is required to prevent problems.
New Boston Health Care has protocol in place to deal with Infection Control issues, including isolation, out break studies, and disinfecting. Call our facility for more information on this topic.
On-site Therapy and Rehabilitation Services
Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Restorative Therapy
New Boston Health Care provides on-site Rehabilitation to individuals whose level of independence is threatened by physical injury or illness. Assessment and training in functional skills by licensed Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists helps the residents to achieve more closely their former abilities. With Restorative Nursing, in addition to patient and caregiver education, our residents are able to continue to improve even when skilled therapy is no longer needed.
Stroke, Parkinson, Joint Replacement Surgeries and Amputations are just a few of the diagnosis the Rehab Teams are experienced in treating. With an array of clinical exposure prior to long term care, the therapists can address all of their residents’ rehab needs. Therapy is also provided to those who need it as an extension to hospitalization, to maximize safety and independence before returning home.
Hospice
Hospice is a program designed to provide comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure oriented treatments. Provided by staff and volunteers, hospice offers specialized medical care, addressing all symptoms of a disease with emphasis on controlling a patient’s pain and discomfort.
Hospice does not prolong life nor hasten death. The social, spiritual and emotional impact of the disease on the patient’s family and friends is dealt with. Bereavement and counseling services are offered to families before and after the death of a patient.

Volunteer Program
Volunteers play a significant part in the daily Long Term Care operations. They are important for residents with whom they interact as well as for staff getting a break from volunteer activities.
New Boston Healthcare Center provide skilled and custodial nursing care 24/7. We services which might be desired briefly as a result of sickness or an injury, including:
*A nurse attending to your postoperative wound or dispensing and tracking intravenous drugs.
*A physical therapist working to rectify strength and equilibrium problems with a resident.
*A speech therapist in recovering their capability to speak following a stroke, helping a resident.
*An occupational therapist helping a resident to eventually become independent again, especially when it involves dressing, personal hygiene and eating.
