Small art museum with a good amount of art to see. I wish it was a little bigger, but the quality of art was very good. It has a little bit of everything around every corner. Lots of what they have is from local artists around CT, new and old. Watch out for the security guard when you get there. He'll look at you suspicious, untill you go in lol. If you get here before 12pm on a Saturday, you can go for free and it wasn't too busy either.
Nice museum with a wonderful collection of American art through the years. Especially enjoyed the Thomas Hart Benton works, having "reported" on him in elementary school in Camdenton, Missouri.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I liked the paintings. My favorite was the Feast of the Redeemer. The benches were cool, each one having a unique design to match the theme of the room it is in. The gift shop had some cool gifts. Although, if you are buying something wooden, check for dents; the cat puzzle I bought was the only perfect one in the store.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$11–15
One of my favorite museums in Connecticut. Great permanent and special exhibits. All this and an adjoining park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. This place is a must stop in Central Connecticut.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entry$11–15
The museum was very well paced and had many different types of art. So there is definitely something for everyone to like!! It was very nice and I would 100% come again.
11/2020 Hidden gem with amazing art. Absolutely exceeded my expectations & another trip is definitely in order. So much to see!! 07/2022 Second visit this past weekend & another phenomenal trip. So much different art now and another themed exhibit on the second floor. Can't wait to see what's there next time!
Very stunning and surprising museum in New Britain. I really loved the current feature gallery showcasing the late works of Helen Frankenthaler and their showcase of prominent and up and coming Connecticut artists. Particularly interesting selection of modernist works.
Wonderful local art museum. I visited for the first time in March 2021. Timed tickets due to COVID, but there was hardly anyone in the galleries on a weekday. I was impressed with the permanent collection. I also was pleasantly surprised with the special exhibit on Helen Frankenthaler. I was not aware of her work before viewing the special exhibit on-site.
Open and spacious rooms with unique artwork. Your local library offers free passes online and on Sat morning entrance is free from 10-12. Otherwise there's a small fee. Kids enjoyed walking around. Staff was friendly and because of covid there were blue arrows inside to guide the self tour. It's a nice place to visit especially now with so many restrictions and closings of venues.
NBMAA is an absolute gem of a museum. The collection is really incredible, especially their Ashcan School and Impressionist works. They have two nice little children's sections as well, which is wonderful for parents since many art museums are not really kid friendly. We are all lucky to have this here.
