This is my go-to blood donation center after three donations at this location, and having not the best experiences at other spots. They go pretty quickly and I've never waited too long, even if there are a bunch of folks there. The techs are always nice and in good spirits. They will make some solid conversation to keep you engaged and distracted. They're attentive, know what they're doing, and make things nice and painless. They're generous with the snacks too, and will load you up and tell you to take as much as you want. If you're new to donating or are a veteran, check out this donation center.
One of the worst donating experiences I've ever had in my 20 plus years of donating. Doing a double donation attendant assigned to me never checked in or anything. To the point the machine starts to make a noise. Upon calling him over he says to me, "You are good." Less than 5min later the entire machine shuts off. I was still hooked in to a line. I asked for a manager who tried to explain to me was a malfunction. No it was the negligence of this worker. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
I’ve never had a good experience after donating but always want to - this location, included Zaib, Ginine, Bill, and Kimberleigh, were PHENOMENAL. They made me feel so well taken care of and flipped my whole experience. I was so comfortable, and they treated me with so much warmth.
The entire staff from check in to cookie/juice givers are terrific. Very friendly and compassionate. So glad I selected this Rockville Center location.
Make an appointment online prior to your visit. If you park in the municipal lot, the Blood Center will reimburse you the cost of the parking fee. Once inside, you will be asked to show your donor ID or other form of official ID, then you will answer a quick online questionnaire. After these formalities, you will sit with a donor specialist to determine your blood pressure and hematocrit count. Once done, another donor specialist can set you up in a bed and begin the process of withdrawing blood, platelets, or plasma from your body. Years back, I donated platelets regularly. This process, from my recollection, took about two hours. More recently, I have given whole blood . It takes hardly ten minutes for them to draw the amount they need; the donor specialists who have assisted me have been nothing short of kind, informative and reassuring. Blood donation is a lifesaving gesture and the Rockville Centre area is fortunate to have the staff, services, and venue to accommodate those who wish to give!
Drove 25 minutes each way to find out the location closed because the AC wasn't working. Fine, it happens. Staff should have the courtesy to inform people who made appointments of the closure. Pathetic.
Workers are well trained and pleasant. Conveniently located and clean facility. One criticism is that although I only had to wait about a half hour to start the procedure, I really don't want to wait at all. They should be ready to go as soon as I walk in I had an appointment, and I've given blood twice already this year so they shouldn't need me to fill out another pedigree sheet. After all, I am voluntarily donating my time and comfort to give them an extremely valuable and rare resource O- blood.
I have made over 170 donations with L.I. Blood Center. The staff members are very friendly and professional and the facility is always clean. I have always been made to feel comfortable and appreciated. Special thanks to Marge at the front desk. I am always happy to be able to help with my donations.
You have to pay for parking, had a 10:45 appointment and arrived at 10:35, didn't get in the chair ready to donate until 11:50. Had to go back out and put more money in the meter prior to donating. Donated whole blood and was done in about 6mins but was left unattened for another 10mins because no one hqd realized. Nick and Claudia were very short and had rude.
They check your temp as soon as you enter the building. Also if you’re worried about the parking meter, they have a sign that says they’ll reimburse you and to give them your ticket and they’ll keep feeding the meter for you! It was my first time here and everyone was very kind :
