Do NOT use these jokers. They will hose you. Bad repair work, and price gouging. Beware this business is not the Sofa Surgeon or Couch Doctor NYC. The price of a poorly executed repair job will run you $1100! Read the reviews on Yelp and the owner’s empty replies before even getting a quote. They will initially quote you $350, but when one of their techs arrives not in any kind of professional attire, they will decide to exact an additional “travel fee” and then up the base repair job to $650. Costs of materials cheap upholstery dust material to cover over where they cut in? Add another $250! And then using duct tape to patch the material! The repair looks like a DIY project - definitely not something that looks done by a professional. You’ll also be left helping the tech move your couch around and holding things in place and cleaning up after them. You are better served to use Handy or Task Rabbit or Sofa Surgeon. This is not labor intensive stuff either. A few screws and staple gunning. I’m always happy to pay for quality workmanship but this is a shady business with bait and switch tactics with below average workmanship. Don’t risk any fine furniture with them. Avoid!
We used Sal for 3 separate apartment moves in Brooklyn- all the same couch, which needed to be taken apart, moved, and rebuilt in order to fit into each apartment- we were always quoted around $350, and that was always upheld. Our last move actually didn’t require the couch to be taken apart, only moved into the truck we had waiting outside and the guys charged us $650. We got on the phone to speak to Sal, thinking there was a mixup but he was adamant with the price, even though it made no sense. I was shocked and sickened by how advantageous these men were- customer loyalty means nothing to them, and they truly robbed us in that moment. What a sad way to end our time in Brooklyn. Avoid these people if you can help it
Buyer beware, ASK FOR AN ESTIMATE. A 30 minute job was billed as $650. Most reviews and online costs made me think ~$250-$350, so when I texted and was told the guys would be there the next day, great! So far so good. When the repairmen arrive at my door and say $650, and that part of the cost is them coming out to begin with and that I would owe even if they left makes me feel pretty trapped. $650 is about what the couch was worth, and they're saying how they have to break the whole thing down and it will take awhile. After a minute of them setting up we tell them that really we just need the bottom legs removed and that will be enough clearance: and it was, no break down necessary. From arrival to couch in living room it was 30 minutes. When I ask for a break in labor cost because a 3 hour job took 1/6th the time, they're really giving me a hard time. Saying it's a Sunday charge, that we're paying for experience that they had to painstakingly fill the van with gas. It's true that part of the cost is expertise, but in every profession time worked is also a factor. If the 3 hour job took 6 hours would they have charged me the same amount or more because it took longer? My glorious partner was able to berate them down to $550, but still that's ~$200 more than what I was expecting based on other reviews. In any case if they had been more up front with me about the cost and where the cost was coming fromdoes a Sunday surcharge even exist? I could have waited a day. Do hours worked factor in? Because if I paid for them to work for 3 hours and they only worked for 30 minutes I would hand them brooms to sweep my apartment for the remaining 2.5 hours. The couch didn't need to move across town, it was from ground floor to 2nd floor, but the short distance also didn't cut me a break? Would it have been even more that $650 if I had to move it a block away?
