Don't come to this location. They've continued to have a ring of thefts. This morning I found my high end lock was broken off, $350+ worth of running gear stolen. They'll be dismissive of your hopes to get anything back, and aren't liable in keeping their location secure. Also, the steam room is constantly broken, flies all over the men's showers, and the sauna gave me ringworm. This place is a mess. Sad, I loved the location too.
This is the HARDEST gym to cancel from. I have an all access pass and that allows me to go to all the different locations in the city. That being said I was directed to go to my “HOME” club to cancel which is completely out of the way from where I live now I took time out of my day to go all the way down there specifically to cancel and the ONE manger that is “allowed” to cancel my membership isn’t there. I was then told I would have to come back - very annoyed and extremely upset I reluctantly took yet ANOTHER trip down there and STILL was unable to cancel because once again I was told I needed to meet with the manager. I have called multiple times to cancel and ANY chance of me reconsidering staying with this gym is absolutely lost. I was directed to send a “letter by mail with a photo copy of my ID” once AGAIN inconvenienced. I asked the team member if this really WAS a “security” issue why couldn’t she document right then and there that I was there IN PERSON to cancel and have her GM call me and do it over the phone. I have been with this gym for over 2 yrs and never had any problems until I decided I wanted to cancel. There customer service goes completely out of the window once you decide to no longer be with them. And on TOP of all of that, even though my contract has finished they STILL want to charge me a cancellation fee or “convenience” fee how is ANYTHING about this convenient? I will not recommend this gym to anyone ever again. There are far BETTER gyms in the city that won’t treat you like this or make it this DIFFICULT to cancel.
Easily the worst gym I’ve ever been to for more reasons than I can count. I’ve been a member for over a year and at no point is everything in the gym working or stocked as expected. There has been broken a/c, broken sauna, broken steam room, plenty of broken equipment, weeks without soap/body wash/shampoo/tissues, etc. Weights are everywhere and staff does nothing to help clean any of this up. Not sure what kind of ridiculous rates they try to charge nowadays but I was able to secure a passport for $40 a month and this is the only gym next to both my work and my apartment Astoria location is great, which is why I’m still here. Don’t sign up for the first rate they give you and they will text/call you with a better offer in a week. Only do so if this is your last option, as this location is terrible. Management - you should really be ashamed.
$45 a month for a weight room, cardio room, spin studio, dance studio, and steam room is well worth it. Plenty of towels, and pretty much all machines and equipment is updated and functional. It's quite busy after 5, and weekends are a nightmare. Sadly, after only 6 months, I had to cancel my membership because it was so busy, I either had to reserve 1.5 - 2 hrs in order to wait for all the machines I wanted to use, or never get a complete workout. Too many people on their phones and not actually working out. Also, they have a rather steep cancellation fee, which isn't very user-friendly. I recommend doing push-ups on your floor and running outside, all of which are free and don't make you pay to NOT do!
Small gym compared to others, but the location is convenient for me. Staff is fairly friendly and the locker room is clean for the most part. Knocking off stars because the men's locker room has people who never take locks off locker. It has progressively gotten worse. How do I know they are not other gym members that are there? I go there when they first open at 530 AM. I am one of the first 5 people there and the same lockers have pad locks.
i have come into this gym 4 times the past 3 months trying to cancel or freeze my account because i am leaving town. each time i am either treated rudely or told the task will be completed yet i am still being charged. honestly i'm drained emotionally from trying to figure this out. the hours are good and the facility is nice i've been a member here for 5 years now but they don't respect you and i have been very patient. i do not think it is worth it to join here
NYSC Greenpoint and City Hall have never given me any issues but this location is particularly a mess. The front desk, a couple of the class instructors, my personal trainer, Leon, they're good people and give the club its only positive: genuine human connection. Everything else ranges from fine to nightmarish. I'm not a big fan of NYSC bc the workouts are super repetitive. The gym is okay, regular equipment, heavy rotation, not a lot of cleaning or maintenance. Row-press-deadlift-row is too common across classes with different names, targeting different audiences to end up doing basically the same thing. And, minus two women, most of the instructors I've interacted with are too busy to look up to make sure class participants have good form and aren't hurting themselves. The worst part of this club is the management. I thought about listing all of the issues I've had in less than 6 months, but I simply don't have the time. I'll just give you advice: don't sign up for anything extra. I don't want to stop anyone's bag, but these people don't have customer service that isn't under their roof so when they lock you into addl memberships or charges you didn't ask for, no one can help you. Once your card is on file, it's over. Dispute any shady charges with your bank bc "Sorry, we made a mistake; let me fix it" doesn't exist in their vocabulary OR they do not posses the competence to do their jobs, no matter how many months you commit to talking over their fraudulence. Also there is a charge to do everything, even with a 30+ day notice so make sure you ask how much it's going to be for sign ups, cancellations even if you've abided by the rules, freezes, classes, etc. Re: personal training, there are sessions and then there are packages, called "personal training memberships." These memberships are in addition to the regular gym membership you're paying for. They are minimum of 3-month commitments at the time this was written. Speaking of which, if you DO sign up for anything, have them turn the computer screen so you can see what you're signing; don't let them summarize it for you cause they could be flat out lying. If you're looking for a nutrition plan with personal training, the resource they use is very bad imo. Subway sandwiches and Lean Cuisine?!?? I'm a person, not a trashcan. Terrance Lawrence, Michelle Caravella, and Liliana Charria are particularly useless, although they are friendly so be wary of the smiles and the "Let know if you have any problems". If you get stuck, try going to another location to ask another manager for advice. If may be fruitless, but it can't be any less fruitless than trying to make it make sense with these dweebs.
The staff are for the most part great, and the gym is clean with working equipment. It's not spacious, but they maximize what space they have really well, and typically the community's very courteous in terms of working in on machines and not hogging them.
The gym gets the job done. Stair masters are almost always broken and don’t get fixed for weeks. Same deal with some woodways. Weights are always disorganized on the floor. A lot of equipment is rusty or not working properly ie. cables upstairs. First floor usually smells funny. All of that didn’t really matter to me because I’m there to get in and get out. But the majority of the front desk and staff are not hospitality people. Two of them are actually very welcoming. Others not. Not warm, always on their phones, not ready to answer questions. Someone hung up on me on the phone while I was mid-question and acting like it’s something she does all the time. It’s very obvious that guest etiquette is not something that is emphasized in employee training. Honest mistake I’m sure, but really bad for customer comfort. Seriously very rude.
