Founded in 1957, the Newark Auxiliary is an assisting organization whose more than 200 members provide services, advocate, educate, and raise funds for the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center.
Fundraisers, special events, and the hospital gift shops, along with membership dues, raise the money necessary for large purchases of equipment and renovations in many hospital departments.
Auxiliary gifts to Newark-Wayne and DeMay Living Center have included:
Fetal monitors - $35,000
Patient food tray system - $45,000
Update of waiting areas - $40,000
Mammography unit update - $5,000
Bike helmet giveaways - $8,000
Newborn channel in maternity - $2,500
Computers for residents in DeMay Living Center - $2,000
Renovations of nurse's stations in 2 South and 2 West - $20,000
Events sponsored by the Auxiliary include:
-Blood drives
-Health fairs
-Tree of Lights
-Golf Tournaments
-Kids' Carnival
-Christmas stockings for DeMay residents
-Hospital lobby sales
