The Newburyport Police Department has thirty-four sworn personnel and is a State Accredited, service oriented police agency. The Department is committed to ensuring the safety of the community, while maintaining a high quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. The City is nine square miles and services a population of just over 18,000 residents. The City of Newburyport borders the Towns of Newbury, Salisbury, West Newbury, and Amesbury. Interstate 95, U.S. 1, and U.S. 1A run through the City. Newburyport has a moderate retail and commercial space, along with a large industrial park and miles of waterfront. Our policing philosophy balances traditional and innovative policing methods, supporting our view that community problems are most successfully addressed and alleviated by working in partnership with the community.
