Newcomb's Ranch

Description

Newcomb's Ranch is a roadhouse at 5340ft in elevation in the Angeles National Forest, near Los Angeles, California. It is the only private property along the Angeles Crest Highway and is very popular with motorcyclists and is called "the informal headquarters for riders" by the Los Angeles Magazine and "one of Southern California's most famous Rickey Racer Roadhouses" by Motorcyclist. The roadhouse is located in unincorporated Los Angeles County, near La Cañada Flintridge. The Newcomb family, who also created the Mount Waterman ski area, settled the property using the Land Revision Act of 1891, building the roadhouse in 1939. The roadhouse has served as a restaurant, hotel, general store, gas station, and as a brothel or love hotel. The inn burned in 1976, allegedly started by a cook who had been terminated. The fire destroyed most of the second floor, which wasn't rebuilt. It was purchased in late 2001 by Frederick Rundall, an oncologist who purchased the roadhouse from Lynn Newcomb and remodeled it in 2003 for $340,000. The second floor became lodging for employees.Motorcyclist and comedian Jay Leno is a "frequent visitor" to Newcomb's.

Newcomb’s Ranch along Angeles Forest Highway is a must stop and gathering place or may be a destination close to Los Angeles. Amazing ride up and down from east or west with it’s twisty climbs and declines perhaps offers a bit technical riding experience. Perfect rest stop for refueling energy with great good, drinks in terrific setting with friendly staff and great service. Well situated with great outdoor and indoor seating with a long linear bar and decorated with informative and special memorabilia. It even has a bike shop for spontaneous fix. Rev up and visit.
Unfortunately the venue is currently/now closed for business. But this is more a review of the car/motor atmosphere Newcombe has provided for years. After a lovely, and twisty drive up Angeles Crest Highway you will be greeted by plenty of gearheads at Newcomb’s. Come and enjoy others’ cars, and share your petrol passion.
It's been a while since I've actually been able to go there and grab a drink or food and hang out. This past Memorial day I did. The attitudes of the employees was great even though they were working on a holiday. They've always been really cool about all the riders and driver's that just show up to hang out with everyone. Although my days off arriving on two wheels isn't physically possible anymore I will be a regular again on four wheels. I always get at least a lemonade there. Which happens to be consistently pretty darn good!
Hands down the best riding destination in the L.A. National Forest. Good food, plenty of bikes to look around, and plenty of fellow bikers to meet and talk with. Oh, and some cars show up to.
What a great restaurant in the middle of nowhere. There was WiFi too for all those that are in the area and deprived of cell phone service. This is a popular spot for bikers, hikers, and fancy sports cars. The prices for the meals.were fairly reasonable too. Really good food and friendly staff.
Awesome place to stop for quality food and a friendly motorcycle crowd. Worth the journey. The bike shop inside is stocked with quality riding gear from helmets, to gloves and even has a bike for sale in the middle of the shop. The ride up is fun with excellent views and rest areas along the way. If you’re a motorcyclist this is a must.
Visited few years back and loved everything about this place from the sightseeing drive to the food and ppl. However this establishment was closed until further notice as of Jan/2021, probably due to covid. Hope they weather through the tough time and reopen when all done. I'll be back.
Home away from home. A place for friends to gather outdoors just far enough from LA that we can forget it all. Along the 2 highway from LA Canada to Palmdale area is Newcombs Ranch. Good food good people good beer good times. Church for motorcyclists on the twists, and a haven for hikers and others camping. You can also see amazing cars up here. Car commerical, exotics, meetups...all of it. Newcombs will be there to help jump a car, tow a bike, supply a camping permit, almost anything. The staff here are friends. All are welcome. Just remember this aint LA. Leave the attitude and breathe in the fresh air! And most of all be safe on the roads and take care of each other! July 2017 Edit: Its still 5 stars and unlikely to change. This is now the 3rd time in as many months that I have witnessed them loan the phone for AAA and then some. A roadhouse church to be sure. Be kind to the staff and it will be returned 100x. My favorite stopping point on So Cal.
I usually ride "the snake" and get lunch at the Rock Store. But riding up to newcombs one weekend with my friends and I'm sold. Food is much better than the usual ride in spots. Beautiful scenery. Everyone I've met that works here has been very pleasant and helpful. Plenty of parking for bikes and cars. Phone available for customers as well as well as wifi on site. All around great place to make a destination for your weekend ride.
Food is decent but nothing amazing. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Only two beers on tap with additional bottles standard fair.
