Dr. Teddy's top concern is patient comfort. He uses the latest state-of-the-art technology, such as digital X-rays, which expose his patients to up to 90% less radiation than traditional X-ray machines.
Sedation Dentistry
For severely anxious children, Dr. Teddy can employ offer sedation dentistry to help calm their nerves. The most common approach is administering nitrous oxide, or what Dr. Teddy calls “happy air”, to make a nervous child feel more comfortable. Endorsed by the American Dental Association, sedation dentistry is a safe way to ease pediatric patients' fears.
Fun-filled Office Atmosphere
Dr. Teddy has designed Newport Children's Dentist with kids in mind! There are lots of videos and games in the reception area and even TVs in the ceiling above each treatment chair! Patients can watch cable TV or a DVD while receiving a teeth cleaning or dental exam. To encourage his younger patients to brush and floss every day, Dr. T has a No Cavity Club and a Good Brusher Club, which make dental visits more meaningful for children. Dr. Teddy also has Rewards Point Cards for older children and teenagers so they can choose a gift card with their earned points. Cool prizes like iPads are also available for teenage patients!

Dr. Ilhyun “Ted” Kim, known to his patients as “Dr. Teddy”, has been providing children with exceptional pediatric dental care for 10 years. Highly educated, Dr. Teddy received his Bachelor of Arts in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He then obtained his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree, with a focus on dental and oral surgery, from Columbia University, College of Dental Medicine in New York, New York. He completed a one-year residency in cosmetic dentistry at Columbia University as well. Always an avid advocate of children's health, Dr. Teddy furthered his training for two years in pediatric dentistry at Columbia University.
Dr. Teddy feels it is important to stay up to date with pediatric dentistry. Thus, he maintains memberships in many prestigious professional organizations to keep up-to-date on the latest techniques and technology. He is currently an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association and the Orange County Dental Society.
Highly regarded in his profession, Dr. T was recognized as a recipient of the American Dental Association’s Endowment Award and Dean's Scholarships. He shares his knowledge of excellent oral hygiene habits with his local community by lecturing at local schools, from pre-schools to middle schools, at mom's clubs and in community centers.
When he’s not at the office, Dr. Teddy loves to spend time with his children playing piano, travelling and playing golf.
