Leaving two stars only because the clerk who actually helped us obtain our marriage license was nice. Carlos Aalan deputy city clerk should be fired. I have truly never encountered a more rude human being. Our first encounter with him was when we called to ask a simple question about obtaining an appointment for our marriage license. He refused to answer my questions and screamed at me stating all correspondence should occur over email. The instructions weren’t clear that the birth certificates needed to be verified with a raised seal, so when we arrived in Newport we were forced to re book our appointment once we obtained those. When we arrived in Newport just 3 days before our wedding our appointment had been double booked. Carlos caused a scene waving his appointment book in our face stating we were the 1:00 PM appointment and that we messed up the time. I explained that we were definitely booked for 11AM as we have another commitment at 1PM today. The other clerk said they would accommodate us after they helped somebody else which we said was totally fine, we were okay to wait because we understand people are human and make mistakes. He continued to trash talk us behind the desk loudly stating that we were lying about the time. I’m not sure what’s possibly so wrong with this man’s life that he needs to try and ruin a happy moment for other people but he needs to go. Absolute jerk!
Next year 2023 will be the 300 year anniversary of the Gravelly Point pirates. I think it would be nice if Newport remembers the 26 pirates by installing a gravestone finally at the north end of Goat Island. A small ceremonial blessing of forgiveness would bless Newport as well as the pirates if not more.
Historic location for Veterans Day ceremony. Easy parking nearby in center of town.
Beautiful place, being protected by America's finest.
This review is specifically for Frank Santos in Engineering. We were in an immediate bind and he was able to assist us immediately with our permit needs. We are truly sincerely thankful for Frank and his quick action. We are so happy to be apart of a The City of Newport with such competent individuals in public service. Thank you, Frank!
