Came here for an emergency visit they were fast and friendly. The providers seems very knowledgeable. The rooms are bit outdated but I received the care I needed at the moment and yes, I’ll come here again.
What a sham operation; my mother was admitted through the emergency room, I called that night and was told a nurse would call me back. No one did, the next day it took ma an hour to get through, the emergency room picked up the phone and hung it up, then never answered afterwards. Admitting couldn't be bothered to tell me that she had been admitted, they could only transfer me back to emergency. To think the lazy incompetent man, working today, 10/7/23 at 11 am, couldn't be bothered to check and let me know she had been admitted. I guess they can only get rid of calls as soon as possible. I've never encountered such callousness or incompetence. What a cruel joke.
We should have listed to friends but ignored them and came to Hudson Valley Hospital for my mom’s knee surgery anyway. Based on our experience, please avoid this hospital at all cost. My mom lives alone and after the surgery they advised the insurance to send her home by herself. She couldn’t get out of bed due to all the pain and she couldn’t even go to the bathroom by herself. My mom was constipated even after two weeks since surgery. And the PT and doctors omitted the fact to the insurance that my mom was living alone rather than advocating for sending her to a nursing home to recover. In one instance, the nurse helped my mom to go to the bathroom and then failed to check up on her. My mom was stuck in the bathroom for 3 hours. She was traumatized by that experience and having to experience that from her house. We found no advocate for my mom there. If you love your family and yourself, go somewhere else. This place will only disappoint you.
First I want to say that I understand a hospital is made of numerous people, most trying to do their best. Also, I know how hard the pandemic has been on nurses and other people in the healthcare system. That being said, I think there are serious issues with how this hospital attends to elderly patients. My mother died there in November, and had previously been treated there multiple times. Back in late August, before things had gotten truly dire, we went to the emergency room and a doctor whose name I don't recall examined her. He seemed distracted and, while he asked what the large wound on her leg was about, he didn't react when we told him it had recently appeared after a minor scratch and wouldn't heal. He let her go home that night and things continued to get worse. In September, we were back in the emergency room. This time, two nurse practitioners bless them said they suspected a heart medication she was on was interacting badly with other medications and had turned toxic. This would impact circulation and explain the wound. They had blood work done and this turned out to be correct. It is my belief they saved her life for a couple of months. But by this time, she was seriously weakened. An infection set in, which she beat back, then another which killed her. Did it have to be that way? Obviously I can't know but, if that doctor in August had done blood work, maybe she would have lived for five months instead of a little over two. I don't see he had the right to be so indifferent. My mother was old and probably didn't have that much time left, but we needed her and she was strong. She wanted to live as long as possible. If your elderly loved one is going to this hospital, I would advise finding somewhere else if possible and, if not, speak up. For the rest of my life, I'll kick myself for not making more noise when it was clear some people there saw her as not worth the trouble. Aside from all this, I wish this hospital would have some serious talks with their nurses about keeping their moralistic views to themselves. Again, to be fair, several nurses were extremely kind and helpful but others were anything but. One in particular really needs some reeducation. After my mother had lost consciousness for the last time, I was falling apart watching her slowly fade away. To be TOTALLY UNAMBIGUOUS, this was after it was clear nothing could be done to save my mother and, as it turned out, little over a day from her death. I asked this nurse if the morphine could be increased at all. Considering that I hadn't slept and was feeling suicidal, I was perfectly polite and outwardly calm though clearly upset. If she had responded with "No, I'm terribly sorry but we can't do that. Believe me, I understand but it's just not allowed," I would have nodded and forgotten the whole thing. Instead I got a stern lecture on the inappropriateness of my question which ended with these words, which I'll hear ringing in my ears for the rest of my days: "You need to stop thinking about yourself." The idea that I wanted my mother dead is the most vicious insult anyone could have ever thrown at me. When told my mother could not recover, it took every ounce of strength I had to not start screaming and insisting it couldn't be, that something had to be done. I stopped myself from that because I knew how much it would devastate her, just as she held herself together for my sake. Is this so unusual? Doesn't this nurse know that 99% of people asking that question would only ever ask it because they have no hope left, that it's a question that rips your soul apart? She didn't know us, and I didn't expect her to. But silly me, I guess I expected she wouldn't hurt us.
On Monday, October 25th, I was admitted the this Hospital. I arrived by ambulance. I have severe stomach pain. I was admitted at, about, 11 am. Then, for 5 hours, I was given no pain medication. They did not want to even give me an IV until a doctor said that I was severely dehydrated. Then, they administered EKG's Mind you, all my pain was in my stomach. It was not until after 4 pm that they did an MRI of my stomach and found a kidney stone in my urethra. Then, instead of blasting it with soundwaves to break it up, they said that they needed the ER bed for other patients and discharged me. That was 6 days ago. The entire time I have been in immense pain. They could have prevented that pain by blasting the stone. But, for perverse reasons known only to them, they discharged me. I could go on and on. But I will simply conclude by saying that on Wednesday I will be seeing a urologist at the hospital in Carmel. As far as the Peekskill Hospital is concerned, I give them an F-. Vincent A. Upon arrival to the ER I was greeted by the security guard whom was very pleasant I proceeded to the receptionist desk and was checked in by Theresa whom asked what my symptoms where I stated that I had an elevated blood pressure she phoned backed to the nurses station 59 year old with elevated blood pressure that was around 7:00p.m. I wasn’t brought into the nurses station until 10:00p.m. Due to a second phone call back and I was triaged and escorted to a bed located near the nurses station where I noticed that the same folks that where called ahead of me where still waiting I was SHOCKED and AMAZED especially due to the fact the young man whom came in with a missing finger and a several other patients worse off than myself due to the fact that they where taken before me and I truly understand that some patients have a more dire.circumstances I truly understand however the ball was totally dropped once I heard the nurses giggling and talking about margaritas without a care in the world UNBELIEVABLE and that was my signal to get up and walk out and take my chances until the next morning once my cardiologist office opened for an office visit. Out of the entire staff The security guard, The receptionist Theresa and the EKG tech located where the RN’s are centered at their station I found them to be helpful to the incoming patients for patient care and those three staff members did their job. Kind regards Ms.Hope Morgan P.s. Hudson Valley Hospital You must step up and do better towards patient care maybe you’re understaffed and if so stand up know your WORTH as you continue to be HEROES in the MEDICAL FIELD…….
I think most of the staff is truly doing there best but unfortunately they are overwhelmed and unable to provide full and dedicated care. Good luck getting anyone to pick up the phone and if they do they wont get back to you. My wife and I had similar issues with different NYP offices over the course of 2 years.
I made an appointment with the OBGYN department for an annual checkup in May for the end of June because I am moving July 1. I showed up for my appointment and they had zero record of it in their system and turned me away. I made this appointment because they give me a hard time don’t answer my calls, fail to refill prescriptions, and lecture me over the phone when trying to refill my birth control, and yet they failed me. Besides all of that, every time I speak with them about my health in appointments, they basically shut down the conversation and just try to up my birth control prescription. Don’t go here. I leave every time in tears because the secretaries are rude and the doctors don’t listen or take you seriously. Seriously not worth your time.
Wait times are unbelievable. Sometimes 4+ hours just to be seen. A friend of mine went in complaining about Fever head and back pain. But the pain was so bad it was hurting all over. They did CT scan of head. Did not see anything. Gave her pain meds, and when she was better because the pain meds kicked in and she was not in pain no more so they just discharged her Yesterday going in to today said friend had to be brought to Phelps because Peekskill didn’t do nothing. Phelps ran every test you can think of and she is getting the treatment for something that this hospital missed.
I was recently in the ER at Peekskill hospital. The staff was very efficient very friendly the hospitalist came in several times to discuss test results . The service was hands down top rate. I was very impressed with the print out that you get when you leave the hospital it states when medication was given ,the doctors that saw you and what was done. The service was great , they worked hard to make you feel comfortable ,they did a great job .Would highly recommend Peekskill hospital.
