Thank you for your interest in the pharmacy residency programs at New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC). Located in the beautiful coastal city of Wilmington, North Carolina, NHRMC and the pharmacy residency programs are committed to leading our community to outstanding health. The health system houses more than 800 beds and serves as the regional referral center for seven counties of Southeastern North Carolina. NHRMC accepts all levels of trauma, is stroke certified, houses a 108 bed ER, and provides a range of oncological services via the Zimmer Cancer Center. The Betty H. Cameron Women’s and children’s hospital is also located on the main campus and provides a full range of services. Several primary care clinics are included in the health network, as well as an outpatient pharmacy which provides medication assistance, bedside discharge education, and tier pricing. The pharmacy department offers a wide range of services including: anticoagulation, nutritional support, pharmacokinetics, transitions of care, drug information, antibiotic stewardship, etc. Pharmacists participate in both unit based and team rounding and complete direct patient activities and consultative services under P&T protocols.
As a community teaching hospital, NHRMC, hosts 4 medical residencies (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, OB-GYN, and Surgical) in addition to 4 ASHP accredited pharmacy programs (PGY1 Pharmacy, PGY1 Community, PGY2 Ambulatory Care, PGY2 Critical Care). Pharmacy residents are trained by an extremely qualified, diverse group of preceptors. More than 85% of NHRMC pharmacy residency preceptors are board certified in their area of interest and regularly publish and present at regional and national conferences.
