History of the Niceville Public Library
On June 8, 1974, the City of Niceville opened the doors of Niceville’s first public library. Until then, the residents of Niceville had used the Valparaiso Community Library, with the City of Niceville paying a fee to Valparaiso for the library privileges.
The original facility was a two-story 4,500 square foot brick, glass, and metal building located on the corner of John Sims Parkway and Armstrong Avenue. In 1995, the City applied for a Construction Grant and began the planning process for a new building. Niceville joined the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative on October 1, 1997. The doors of our new 17,500 square foot library facility opened on August 3, 2000 in the Niceville Civic Complex.
