I filed my 2018 Taxes in March of 2019. It is now almost the year 2020 and I still haven’t received my tax refund. This was my first experience with Nizam Accounting and will definitely be my last. I do not know how the business is still running. All my other years of filing taxes has been a smooth and simple process. But for some reason I wanted to try Nizam Accounting due to the enticing lower cost. However, that lower cost came with a price – stress and a lot of time wasted. I had a gut feeling something wasn’t right during my consultation with Nizam as he literally just used an online calculator to determine my tax refund. This was never done before at other Accounting firms I visited. I work in Michigan and live in Windsor – and soon after filing my taxes with Nizam and seeing everyone else get their tax returns except me, I started to feel alarmed. Then I received 2 letters in the mail – 1 from the IRS and 1 from the CRA. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and both letters stated there was issues with my tax filing. So I brought both letters to Nizam and he ensured me that “this happens all the time” and “the IRS makes this mistake often”. He was quick to point the finger and blame a third party instead of taking responsibility. Months later, I get a letter from the IRS stating that my tax return has been reduced after they recalculated the balance. I was originally supposed to get $2000 USD and now its going to be $400 USD. So I brought this to Nizam and I called the IRS to see what the heck was going on. It turns out, Nizam forgot to tell the IRS that I have health insurance in Canada. So I had to pay a no-health care penalty of $1600 USD. So it wasn’t a mistake of the IRS – it was a mistake from Nizam. During this period, I was trying to contact Nizam via phone and email. Now, email he rarely responded too, however by phone his receptionist always answered with the same exact answer. “Nizam is not here but we can take your number down and have him call you back” this secretary literally wrote down my name and phone number more than 16 times. I only got a call back after weeks of trying to establish communication. So Nizam finally schedules to bring me in and he gives me a letter to send to the IRS, myself. After I already paid him $225 to file my taxes and after I still haven’t gotten my Tax Return yet because of his mistakes. He makes me send off the letter. So I send the letter to the IRS, a month later I call them asking if they received it, they said they are processing it and it will take up to 16 weeks to analyze the adjustment if Nizam even filed it correctly the 2nd time. And still to this day, I am waiting for my USA tax return. So after thinking that the worst was finally over and it just was a matter of time now – things got worse. A hell of a lot worse. I recently got another letter in the mail from the CRA stating that after they recalculated my Tax Filing and I now owe $24,000 CAD to the CRA. Think about that number, $24,000 CAD. Stay away from this guy – this place needs to be shut down, I really don’t know how this is still a running business. You had only 1 simple job. So now I went to a certified Tax Accounting business BDO Canada LLP and handed in all my tax documents. After 2 hours of BDO reviewing my Tax documents, I received a same day call back. Stating that Nizam failed to tell the CRA that I already paid USA federal taxes during my work year of 2018. Not rocket science here, its really simple stuff. So now I will file my taxes with BDO Canada and get my proper 2018 tax return in the year 2020. Thanks Nizam Accounting for wasting my time and opening my eyes. This was truly a good life lesson. I am making this review to give everyone a warning about this awful “Accounting Service”. STAY AWAY. Also, expect the absolute bare minimum if even that Nizam doesn’t go out of his way to try to find any tax cuts at all, didn’t ask about student loans, or RRSP’s nothing. Just shows you an online calculator and walks you out the door.
