FAQs
1) What is Fusion Dance? In the Fort Collins dance community, fusion is largely synonymous with freeform partner dancing to various genres of music. Two dancers (a leader and a follower) partner-up to co-create an improvised yet synchronized dance based on various principles of connection, movement, and musicality. Honestly though, it’s impossible to adequately represent fusion in only a couple vague, if accurate, sentences. Best bet is to check out Nocturne Fusion to experience it for yourself!
2) What music do you play? Our DJs keep the music fresh, dynamic and diverse, playing danceable selections from a broad spectrum of genres. Music could include anything from indie to R&B, hip-hop to downtempo electronica and beyond, all meticulously melted together to create a cohesive fusion soundscape. A typical night of music starts off at a medium tempo, gets bumpin’ by 10pm, then starts a slow simmer down that completely mellows out by midnight.
3) How much dance experience should I have? None! Everyone is welcome to attend the lesson and/or the dance without any prior dance experience. Our community is very friendly toward and happy to dance with newcomers and beginners. Also, fusion is arguably one of the most accessible partner dances since there are no difficult rules to learn, no patterns to memorize, and no steps to count.
4) What shoes do I need? The Grange has a would floor and we would recommend shoes with a smooth sole to allow for some pivoting and sliding. However, dancing in socks or even barefoot is also totally acceptable--and some folks even prefer dancing fusion without shoes.
