Preserving the Past, Serving the Present, Preparing for the Future.
ABOUT NORRIS LODGE #301:
Norris lodge was first organized in the community of Pollard, AL in December of 1864, only four months prior to the close of the Civil War in what was at that time the Confederate States of America. Following the conclusion of that conflict and during the occupation of this region by Federal troops, the original Charter was stolen and removed by a member of the Union Army. An application for a new charter was made to the Grand Lodge and was issued on December 11, 1868. By that time, Escambia County, of which Pollard was the county seat, had been created within what had formerly been the southern portion of Conecuh County, Alabama. Several years later, the lodge moved from Pollard to Brewton, the latter of which communities became the new Escambia County seat in 1881, and remains so to this day. In the recent past, a letter was received by Norris Lodge from a resident of Pennsylvania stating that the original Lodge Charter had been discovered among the effects of an ancestral relative of the individual contacting the Lodge. The individual stated that the family intended to return the charter and soon thereafter, the original 1864 Norris Lodge #301 Charter was returned to the Lodge.
The Mason's of Norris Lodge #301 have been an important charitable group for Brewton and the surrounding areas for over 100 years. We look forward to helping the community in the coming years.
