Explorer program provides youths with real world career experiences and develop other critical skills necessary for success in college and a career
Shortly after the founding of the City of North Charleston Police Department on June 12, 1972, Explorer Post 431 was chartered under our second Chief of Police Linwood Simmons through the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
The NCPD Law Enforcement Explorer Program is an opportunity for young people between the ages of 14-21 to learn firsthand the challenges and rewards of a career in public safety.
Members of Post 431 learn about the field of law enforcement through classroom as well as hands-on training with the opportunity to ride along with and observe certified law enforcement officers in their daily operations.
Topics covered through the Post 431 training curriculum include but are not limited to: Constitutional Law, Firearm Safety, CPR/First Aid, Handcuffing, Crime Scene Investigation, Defensive Tactics and many other subjects which give detailed insight into the field of law enforcement.
Sworn North Charleston Police Officers serve as mentors and instructors, giving our Explorers the benefit of their experience in these areas.
Explorer Post 431 has a long proud tradition which has turned out former members who are now currently serving with or are retired from many law enforcement agencies including the North Charleston Police Department.
The mission of NCPD Explorer Post 431 is to office young men and women between the ages of 14-21 an opportunity to examine the field of law enforcement as a possible career; to create a better understanding of law enforcement on the local, state and national levels; to help create a better understanding between our youth and the community; and to help young adults become mature, responsible citizens.
