Welcome to the North Mountain Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. We are a rural fire company located in the western portion of Frederick County Virginia.
The first organizational meeting of North Mountain was held on February 25, 1973 when 100 members of the community came together at the old Shawneeland Lodge. Company meetings were held at the lodge and the Mountain Falls Community Center until the original station was completed in June of 1974. At that time, the membership of North Mountain was around 200 people and each member was required to pay $3 in annual membership dues. North Mountain's original company number was #9
Our station is located at the base of Great North Mountain in the western portion of Frederick County VA. The land our building sits on was donated by Thomas Rosenberger, a local farmer and former Fire Chief. Our building is still the same with the exception of some more apparatus bays and a large banquet hall.
North Mountain operated a first responder program until 1989 when the first ambulance was purchased. North Mountain was one of the first transporting agencies in Frederick County. Our company now averages 550 calls per year and maintains 8 pieces of equipment.
Our company operates with 35 operational members and several administrative members. Two career staff employed by the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department work at our on 3 separate 24 hour shifts. A Tanker was purchased in 2015 after the sale of our reserve Engine, bringing a much needed service back to the residents of our first due area as well as Frederick County. In 2016, an extensive building renovation took place adding new living space, 2 new bunk rooms that can accommodate a total of 14 members and career staff. We also added a new office as well as new bay doors, new gear stalls and painted the entire interior of the Fire Station.

North Mountain provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, haz-mat response, public services, and other common fire department functions. Our members are well trained and posses certifications that range from Firefighter 1 to Fire Officer 4 and EMT Basic to Paramedic. Our firefighters and EMS providers are aggressive and get the job done. We operate with pride and dedication in everything we do and have adopted the saying "Do Work!"
