The North Shore Cup is a Kayak and Paddlesports Race on the North Shore of Lake Marion in Clarendon County SC. 12 and 6 mile race categories. 10-14-17
The 2017 race will be held on Saturday October 14th, and we ready for another challenging day on the water with some exciting racing to be had by all! Last year's men’s race was won last year by Fenn's always smiling Austin Kieffer, followed by Stellar Surfski’s Reid Hyle, and Think USA’s Jesse Lishchuk. The women’s race featured one of the toughest fields on the East Coast, with Olympic hopeful Alex McLain making the challenging lake crossing in an ICF K1 and beating out Sara Jordan for the win, with Kata Dismukes rounding out the top 3. We are expecting an even more competitive women's field this year, and the top 3 from last year's men's field will be back to dice once again! The 12 mile race course will again feature an open crossing of Lake Marion, offering up a variety of conditions for those vying for the Cup. We will be offering prize money for the top 3 men and top 3 women overall.
The men's race will feature the winner take all $250 Think hotspot at the 3 mile point.
The women's race will feature the winner take all $250 Nelo hotspot at the 3 mile point.
Additionally, hardware will be awarded for the top 3 in the following categories for men and women:
– Surfski Single
– FSK
– Surfski Doubles
– OC-1
– OC-2
– SUP
The 6 mile race will once again be on offer for those not wanting to race the full 12 miles, and hardware will be awarded there as well for the same categories as in the 12 mile, along with prizes.
Professional timing and scoring for both events will once again be provided by Adventure Geek Productions.
In addition to all of this, we will be offering demos throughout the weekend starting on Friday afternoon, when a light shakedown pre-race paddle on Lake Marion will also be on offer.
There will be a low key cookout at The North Shore Condos on Friday night so that everyone can get together the night before the race and talk about how little they’ve been training, and the race will be followed by an awards ceremony with food and beverages at the North Shore pool house.
