The restored 1907 Justices Court Building is the home of the North Shore Historical Museum.
Museum Hours: Wednesdays 2 pm - 6 pm / Saturdays 11 am - 3 pm
The year 2007 celebrated the centennial of our home, the Justices Court Building in Glen Cove. Sterling Glen of Glen Cove donated this historic building to the North Shore Historical Museum. The exterior renovation of the building has been mostly completed, with the exception of the facade decoration. The interior was fully restored in 2012, including upgrades to plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
The building was originally built in 1907 as a courthouse and jail for the Town of Oyster Bay. The structure later served as the City Hall for the new City of Glen Cove (1917). Over the past hundred years the building has served in a variety of capacities: Town Hall, Courthouse, and Police Headquarters. During the flu epidemic of 1918 the building served as a temporary hospital.
It is listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places and is the ideal permanent home for the North Shore Historical Museum. Our plans are to fully restore this building, which has been vacant for over 15 years, to preserve a piece of North Shore history for the future, and to host exhibits that detail the unique history of Long Island's North Shore communities.
The North Shore Historical Museum has been chartered by the New York State Department of Education to collect and exhibit artifacts and archives of Long Island’s North Shore.
