My 92yr old father was admitted to PAM from his assisted living center to address wound care in his lower extremities. While I did not have an opportunity to speak to a practicing physician, I had several conversations on the phone with case managers Sheri and various nurses attending to him. From the person greeting me at the front desk on my visits, to the person in the hallway cleaning, to those aforementioned, all could not have been kinder, more friendly, and open to making sure I knew what was going on. I recognize some of the challenges associated with caring for my dad, and take an active role in his care. Should you reach out to them upon arrival of your loved one to let them know your interest, and follow up accordingly, I believe you will experience the same. I appreciate the care they were able to provide in the short time he was able to be there.
So far so good, the entire staff has been extremely friendly and attentive. They are easy to talk to and care about the patients that are here. At times they can be very busy and possibly bc of short staff but they take time w each patient and do not make them feel like a burden. The therapists are all extremely friendly and knowledgeable and make therapy fun. All of the nurses are so kind and treat them like their own family. We have only been here a few days but so far so good
Do not send your loved ones here unless it's basic rehab. The place is designed so there's no room for loved ones to visit, the rooms are so small. I also hold them responsible for my mother dying. I went in Friday morning and my mom wasn't acting right. The nurse assured me she would get with the doctor and evaluate her and make sure she was okay, so I went to work. That evening my dad went to see her and she was much worse. He was the one that told them she had to go to the ER. Turned out she was in septic shock. She was admitted Friday night and passed away Sunday morning. By the time she got to the hospital there wasn't anything they could really do. Her organs were shutting down and they couldn't keep her blood pressure up. She was on life support. If the nurse and staff at pam listened and cared for her like they should have they may have caught it early enough. My mom was only 54. Granted she had several health issues but she seemed to finally be doing better. My entire world has been torn apart. I wouldn't recommend that place to my worst enemy.
I strongly discourage you send your loved ones here. They were going to let my mother die . If we would not have went up there and asked to have her transported back to hospital she wouldn't be alive today. Then when I called to make a complaint it took me calling up there for two days to get in touch with a woman claiming she was an RN .I believe her name was Rhonda whom lied to me several times and, by the end of the conversation she was blaming the hospital for sending her in the condition she was in to them as well as rude and unprofessional, hanging up on me . This place is not what they make it seem.
After my mom's 5 week hospital stay at STPH we went to PAM for wound care, skilled nursing and rehab. EVERYONE has been fantastic from top to bottom! ALL OF THE STAFF HAS WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND CARING FOR MY MOM! Mom has rebounded ahead of all expectations. Nursing staff has shown such care and compassion tending to mom's needs. Rehab worked with her and had her walking after 5 weeks in bed. Administration checked on us to make sure we were receiving all the care and attention we needed! I can't praise the ENTIRE STAFF enough for what all they have done for my mother and family!
I had an unexpected illness that had me hospitalized for 5 weeks. During that period I was in ICU for 21 days. I had gotten so weak I could not get out of bed much less walk. I'm thankful for the kindness and care I have received at PAM! Everyone has been wonderful to me! I'm walking again! My wounds are healing and I'll be returning to MY home because of the care and encouragement I've received from everyone here. ALL OF THE STAFF have been wonderful to me!
The care my mother received at PAM of Covington was exceptional. The doctors and nurses explained her disease process and what we could expect far better than any other hospital she’s been at. The nurses and staff were so very kind and compassionate consistently and always provided excellent care. We can’t thank them enough.
As a provider of in home care services, I have worked closely with the staff at Post Acute to coordinate additional care as needed for some of our clients. They are always professional, and respond quickly with getting authorization for care which has helped our clients avoid unnecessary ER visits. They provide constant updates and keep us informed so we can help with smooth transitions from their care back home. Highly recommend!
It’s been a year since my husband died of COVID pneumonia under the care of Dr. John C. Simon. Dr. Simon was his attending doctor at Lakeview Regional Medical Center and at PAM Specialty Hospital. It’s my understanding from a fellow patient that the nurse practitioners were taking care of the patients in the COVID section, not the doctor. This would explain why it was 20 days before Dr. Simon called me, even though I asked to hear from him several times. Dr. Simon finally called me for the first time to tell me my husband was dying. My husband began having hallucinations several days after being admitted to Lakeview because of the medications he had been given, in particular, Ativan antidepressant. But on his first day at PAM, my husband was never able to talk again because of the medications prescribed and given to him. Dr. Simon’s team medicated him with Ativan and Benzodiazepam. These medications resulted in placing my husband on wrist restraints. My family called my husband repeatedly for 5 hours before we were told about the wrist restraints. My husband laid in bed listening to our telephone calls, unable to respond. My husband was also given Librium for his so-called Delerium Tremors DT’s from his withdrawal from alcohol. I questioned this since he rarely drank alcohol. Over the course of several days, I insisted that he be prescribed another antidepressant that would not cause the hallucinations. It took them 4 days to finally comply with my request. Remdesivir was never considered an option because Dr. Simon’s team said that Dr. Simon didn’t believe it would be helpful. Albeit several of our close friends informed us of other patients that had clinical success with Remdesivir at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. I hope by sharing our family’s experience with Dr. Simon and his team, other patients will be made aware and prepared for Dr. Simon’s communication style and his medication management choices, disregarding both my husband’s history, his age, and family concerns.
The therapy and care I received during my stay at PAM Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital was excellent. I was admitted for rehab after a fall that broke both of my arms at the shoulders. PAM's doctors, nurses, and occupattional and physical therapists approached my unusual and complicated case with compassionate and innovative treatment plans. They have just opened a new gym with new equipment. I improved much more than I imagined I would during my stay. Everyone from housekeeping to administration seemed to be genuinely interested in my progress. I absolutely recommend PAM Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital of Covington.
