Coming in as a freshman was an absolutely amazing experience. Now, entering Junior year, I still haven't had very many complaints about my teachers, which I realize may change, but for the most part I've experienced good things. Despite the lamentable lack of much funding for the arts programs, we still get by with amazing classes, beautiful dance studios, fantastic theater productions and dance shows, and while I have no art classes, the works that end up showcased in the main hall are positively gorgeous. I have to say that, unlike some, I've had no trouble with the tardy system. There's 4-5 minutes to get to class, which is definitely sufficient time considering in one transition I had to walk from one class in the basement on the far left of the school straight to the next class on the second floor on the far right of the school - and I usually had at least a minute to spare even if I left the basement class a little late. I can thus understand teachers shutting the doors on people even if they're almost at the door, even if I don't necessarily agree with it. In my time, I've also had a wonderful experience being accepted whole-heartedly by the other students in classes where I am definitely the outlier and by the students and others involved in the theater productions - who I now consider my theater family, because that's truly the dynamic between everyone involved. We're not exactly a sports school, but that doesn't mean the sports are at all limited. I've got friends in all different sports and athletic programs. To my knowledge they're all enjoying themselves, and most are doing well, especially the girl's 4x4 track relay team last year - who not only set the fastest record in history for Georgia, but are now first in all of the US. Additionally, despite my many on and off illnesses last year, I was able to maintain pretty good grades thanks to my teachers, who have been very understanding and helpful to me with makeup work and help sessions to help me understand concepts I missed. Overall, North Springs has been fantastic, and I'm very, very happy here. I highly recommend it as a school and I look forwards to meeting anyone who joins us in the next years I'll be here.
All in all, it's a pretty good school. No, it's not perfect, but as far as public Atlanta high schools come it's pretty decent. Great acting/drama department with dedicated teachers and there's a great art department, but it's very underfunded. My only other complaint would be the extreme lack of coherency and success in terms of us getting our schedule on "Gear Up Day." For the past two years, I and many other students were given completely different schedules than the ones with the classes we chose at the end of last year. The school can do better.
This school is very challenging but at times too much can be going on for example for the past few days the power has been going off. Also the students are often on drugs. The cafeteria food is constant as in they always got the same stuff. And the media center has still not opened. In addition the schedules have been messed up since the first day of school I have just now gotten into my right classes. Its the 3rd week of school. Some good things about the school is its standards I don't know about the regular classes but the honors/ap classes expect a lot from their kids and we have to live up to the expectations........otherwise we fail. Another downside to this school is the staggering amount of roaches found on every hall and every corner of the school. Its horrific. But I cant say much because I am a freshmen and have only been here for 3 weeks but I hope It lives up to my expectations because I am a Southside kid......I only go ere because of their magnet program and I hope I am not wasting my time.
Honestly this school is pretty horrible. I transferred mid year to private school. I had a huge change from being at private school for 11 years to coming in as a freshman at North Springs. The administration is HORRIBLE. Right from the get go, I came in for the "gear up" day and they did not even have my schedule so I had to wait for over a hour to get one and I met with a counselor. I had teacher recommendations for what classes I should take and they straight up lied saying that 9th grades "don't take biology" in 9th grade so I got put in a horrible class, while pretty much all of my other friends had biology. All the classes were way to easy, even honors classes was things I had done in 7th grade... I tried to set a appointment with my counselor and after 3 months they still never got back to me about meeting. I could not stand how teachers tried to teach people because most kids do not give a crap about school and are only there because they have to be. All the sports SUCK except track, and the school is horrible at everything. ONLY good thing about this school is there is no real "cliques" and bullying, just regular drama. Also this school is MEGA GHETTO. I mean call me rude if you want but leave anything or bring something expensive to school and it will get stolen.
I went here for 3 years of high school. One positive thing is that the on level classes are super easy and it is not hard to get all A's or high B's, for most classes. Another positive is that NS is newly renovated and looks way better than it did in 2013-2014. Other than that North Springs is a terrible high school. Dead roaches lie on the floors, rats die in the walls and stink up the hallways this happened 2 years in a row, I saw a used condom hanging from the ceiling, people come to school high on drugs and act disrespectful, some teachers don't even give respect to the good kids because they have dealt with the bad ones for so long, etc. Bad students, like some here, interupt a proper education. At NS, the negatives outweigh the positives. YOUR STUFF MAY GET STOLEN HERE, I KNOW QUITE A FEW STORIES. Bad students commonly steal phones or dig through someone else's bag. I recommend not going to this school, I'm glad my times there are over.
I am in my junior year of High School and I couldn't be happier with my experience so far. The many programs that the school offers are wonderful and prepare students for a successful career and life. They don't only teach study skills, but also teach students how to be the best that they can be in their desired fields. THANK YOU NORTH SPRINGS!!!!!!!!!!
Even though this is my first year at North Springs, i am already in love. Not only is the environment more open, spacious, and free, but it has a lot more to offer than its competitor Riverwood, which i also attended. Here there isnt any bullying nor just getting away with everything, but not everyone is "down your back". We are finally getting a new principal, who seems like he'll get the job done. Excellent VPA Program. Best I've EVER seen. Wonderful, Devoted individuals. Good Math&Sciences as well. And yes VPA doesn't just mean acting. We have incredible artist whodisplay their work throughout the school, even as murals on walls. NS is very diverse and offers many areas of interest to where you are not only doing what you love, but doing it towards your future!
2015-16 Let`s Get This Right...I am a freshman, and had a great first semester up until the principle, Dr.Ruiz left. The school has gotten worse, administrators making the school feel like it is on lockdown, administrators cancelling school events, and such. THE TARDY SYSTEM IS HORRIBLE!!! It is set up that if you are late to any class, be it in the morning or not, then you get an infraction, get 6:Detention, 7:2 Detentions, 8: 3 Hour Friday Detention, anymore than 10: ISS. This is horrible because you end up behind on your work and you get ridiculous tardies such as one for being in vision of your teacher, and them making you get a pass for not being in the room when the bell rings, BUT YOU ARE IN THEIR VISION, NOT EVEN 20 FEET AWAY!! They try to keep up with our competitor, Riverwood High, in sports. Our sports are horrible. Period. We do have a good VisualPerformingArts Magnet Academy or VPA, but the VPA receives little to no funding. Our theatre is the only in the school system to not be updated in recent years. We have a huge student-body theatre program with a black-box theatre that they suggested the idea of tearing down to build a new sports facility, OUR SPORTS ARE HORRIBLE! The school is old, really old. It was built in 1963 with a few add-ons. "Good Teachers, Bad Facilities" . We tried to get a new school, but they turned us down in favor of Riverwood, AKA the richest part of Sandy Springs. The VPA program has AMAZING teachers, the Math and Science program is good, to. . I wish the school didn't try to make us something were not, A SPORTS SCHOOL, @NORTH SPRINGS: WE ARE NOT GONNA BE A SPORTS SCHOOL, GET OVER IT OR GO TO RIVERWOOD! I would recommend this school, but only once they fix this no funding issue. If your into Dance, Art, Theatre, Film, Graphic Design, Math, Science, or anything else in our VPA/MATH/SCIENCE Magnet, You should go here...Go Spartans! The kids here are cool , we have King Danny, and there is not a lot of bullying here.
Excellent. Very few high schools can claim that they offer everything to students. North Springs can. It's the only dual magnet hs in GA -- kids can take a huge array of math science or art/visual /performing art programs. Teachers are excellent, new principal is excited and energetic, kids get along. Wish this had been my high school growing up.
There was a climate of bullying that was encouraged by the faculty when I went there. I was inadequately prepared for college. But I am not sure in this day and age, any high school really prepares kids for college. There were a few special teachers. If I could go back, I would not have gone here. I would have attended Riverwood or a private school.
