Beautiful state park on a bluff. Sites all have picnic tables with metal shelters. Electric only. Water available scattered around campground. Poor cell service with Verizon. No data in most places. Great sunset viewing. Bathrooms and showers are clean and with good water pressure.
Big park, spacious, right on the reservoir. But because this is an irrigation reservoir and because of the current drought they empty it out for irrigation purposes. The host told me on September 22, 2022 that the Reservoir is at 8% capacity only. Hence, it is only 15 feet deep whereas when it is full it is 65 feet deep.
Nice campground sites are kind of close together and not a lot of trees between sites. Sites are close to lake and made for a nice walk before dinner. Since it's off season only bathroom open is vault by the boat launch. There is a nice archery range didn't have a bow but it look like it would be fun.
Very well kept and out of the way. It's good for a day trip from Denver. It's quiet with a decent walking trail that isn't hard. Fish jump out of the water all the time on a cool day, and there's birds all over the place.
I liked the park. Evenings were fantastic with a slight breeze accompanied by crickets and other assorted animals serenading you to sleep. Dayime was hot and buggy otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. I tried taking a duckie out by the Inlet campground and biting flies drove me back on shore. I will come back again.
It's a beautiful location with very warm water. We really enjoyed camping here and everyone we meet was extremely kind. The signage is certainly lacking, so prepare to be without service and black of signs. The facilities, even for a park, leave a lot to be desired. We went in right after they were cleaned and it still had a large mess on the ground. Not as bad as it was before, but by no means cleaned up.
NICE lake, clean shores and the dock is great. Suggestion be strategic about timing at the dock mornings are busy if your practiced no problem if your not well its tough. ENJOY, the lake is pretty good sized....we run a 17' boat.
Last night we stayed in Yampa River State Park Colorado for $32 and no entrance fee. Here we paid $36 and $9 entrance fee, even though their website said $7. Why can't they just be honest and charge one price either $43 or $45 or whatever? At the entrance to the park it warns "Click it or ticket" Underneath the sign was a picture of a seat belt being clicked and a leash being clicked on a dog. The message was clear, seat belts and leashes are required. We met the campground hostess riding in her UTV with two Boston terriers neither had a leash or even a collar. She drove hand and held the dogs in with the other "Rules for thee, but not for me." The entrance booth was closed so my wife had to use the outdoor card reader. It is placed in such a way that the afternoon sun makes it almost impossible to read. We stayed in site 100. We got another surprise, STICKERS! The grass around our site was full of what is called puncture vines. They were even growing out of the gravel.
The lake is wonderful and even has a swim beach! There is also a large archery range. The facility is clean and the Rangers are helpful! Make sure you stay for the stunning sunsets.
The grounds crew always do a really good job of keeping the park clean. Camp hosts are friendly, too. We’ve been coming here for years and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good place to camp or go boating. Dump stations and 30-50 amp hookups available on most sites.
