The North Tarrant Express (NTE) 35W project is rebuilding I-35W from downtown Fort Worth (I-30) to US 81/287.
The North Tarrant Express (NTE) project consists of a series of major highway improvements to the critical I-820 and SH-121/183 (Airport Freeway) corridor between I-35 West and Industrial Boulevard in Northeast Tarrant County, and reconstruction of I-35W from I-30 to US 81/287. The first segments opened in Oct. 2014; construction on I-35W is now underway. All segments are upgrading existing general purpose lanes, improving and expanding frontage lanes to add capacity, and adding TEXpress managed lanes, or tolled express lanes, designed for commuters seeking the most reliable and time-saving trip. The variable tolls are based on travel time and demand to maintain a 50 mph traffic flow on the highway; motorists can choose to travel along general highway lanes or tolled express lanes depending on their needs.
