The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) required the high school's administration to develop a school improvement plan to address the graduation rate and low student achievement. The plan was required to be submitted to the PDE for approval. Under the Pennsylvania Accountability System, the school must pay for additional tutoring for struggling students. The High School is eligible for special, extra funding under School Improvement Grants which the school must apply for each year.In 2011, Northeastern High School declined to Warning status due to lagging students achievement in mathematics and reading.
