"Northside Cafe is one of the largest restaurants in Grand Forks. We are known for our lutefisk and lefse around Christmas time. Lutefisk is a Scandinavian dish made from codfish treated with lye before happily and is served with lefse – a popular Norwegian flatbread, usually made with potatoes. The menu at North Side Café ranges from items such as scrambled eggs with ham, chicken fried steak and old fashioned liver and onions. The food is good. The consistency is questionable depending on the staff. I’ve had great wait staff and the opposite. I’ve had wonderful fluffy pancakes and small flat ones. Water served in a tall clean glass and a small cloudy plastic cup…. The facility it self is clean and comfortable. Ample seating for large groups.
Good food, good service, and our waitress, Dolly, was friendly and fun. Glad we took a chance and stopped by this morning. Before today's visit, we had only been here twice; both times were shortly after the restaurant opened for business, and both visits were terrible. This one was perfect and a great way to start our day. Thanks to Northside Cafe and Dolly!
Arrived at 5:30 pm on Thursday evening. Place was dead. My boyfriend and I were only table. We were greeted quickly. When ordering burgers, we asked to have onion rings with them. We were told "no; you can order as appetizer." It was a flat out "no" instead of "I'm sorry; there's no substitutions" or "you can substitute for extra charge" just a flat out "no." Then we waited well over 20 minutes for our burgers. I saw a large take out order come out from the kitchen to the front and figured that was why our order was taking so long. After a few more minutes I had to flag the waitress down to ask about our order. She said there was a large take out order ahead of ours and it should be out soon. Burgers came out a couple of minutes later. They were hot, but fries were lukewarm. Waitress never came by to check on us. I understand if orders take longer than usual, but that should have been communicated when our order was taken. And you NEVER tell a guest a flat out "no." And then to be ignored.... we won't be back.
Large windows greet you in this establishment. There is a lot of natural light bathing you as you eat your meal. Customers are coming and going all of the time. Service is quick and timely. The menu is large and is served all day long. Coffee is hot. Parking: Lots of available parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessibility is good but could be better with electric door access.
Waitress was bad. Not knowledgeble about menu items and slow. FOOD was cold. Cold eggs, pancakesbutter would not even melt.The other order, Philley Cheese steak sandwich, on a big dry bun. Not hot either and could have used au jus. American fries were cold and dry. Place was not very clean and was very uncomfortable and cold. No wonder FOOD was cold. Will not go back and would give 0 stars if I could. Overpriced like every other place.
Completely foul behavior. Called and called, no answer but they were open. My partner went inside to order and was told “we don’t have time today.” The lady also told my partner to go back in the kitchen and cook. Very disappointed, I used to love this place.
Me and my crew stop for breakfast early Saturday mornings. Good place and generally staff is pretty spunky for early mornings. I like it.Food: 4/5
I have never actually felt the need to leave a negative review for a restaurant before, but I couldn’t just not share our experience. We were there for brunch on a Sunday, so we knew it would be busy and expected a bit of a wait. That wasn’t the issue. The problem was the horrible service. We waited in the entryway for 5 minutes before the hostess even acknowledged us. Seemed like she didn’t want to be there at all. She took us very slowly to our table and left without saying a word. We had asked for a high chair, but weren’t given one. Our waitress stopped by once with menus, we asked for a high chair again. In all we asked for one four times over the course of 17 minutes, during which the waitress only stopped by once. We finally left and went to Perkins and had wonderful service. Won’t be going back.
A group of 14 friends met earlier this month, for a meeting and social time. The staff seated us in a quiet back room with more than enough space. We all ordered individually from the menu. Everyone commented on the quality of their meals and were pleased with the prices. We hope to continue this group at the Northside in the future.
Very nice staff. Greeted us at the door. The server was awesome. Delicious food! We tried the roast beef dinner, the steak dinner and my youngest had the grilled cheese sandwich. All very good. Will definitely visit again.
